Mmmm, still can't see Hall making it
id have to agree with that

the club will retain him next year, as he is still raw, but hasnt shown a lot at Willy, and would need to improve a fair way next season

Here's my take:
Egan - Will make it - At the very worse will be an enigmatic forward/winger. At best will be a top gun winger/mid.
Rusling - Will most probably make it. Will at the worst be a solid full forward. Could be anything.
T.Cloke - Will make it, there is little doubt. Will play either CHB or CHF.
Iacobucci - Will probably make it. More confident in him actually than H.Shaw. Just needs to bide his time since the likes of Burns, Licuria, O'Bree, Lockyer, Holland have all got the same role in the side as him. Will be handy Scotland-esque depth player at the very worse IMO.
H.Shaw - I don't know. 50/50 at this stage. Get's the job done, sporadically good skills, has good pace and acceleration but can sometimes look to be lost off the mark.
H. O'Brien - Hasn't really been found out yet. However I haven't seen enough to really make that big a judgement.
Hall - probably won't make it but is worht the risk for another year IMO.
Davies - a better chance than Shaw but not a sure thing
Fanning - wont make it. It seems a bit harsh but unless he makes big improvement next year (which could happen, look at the improvement from last year) he is a bit of a nothing player.

have to agree with most of that jabso

your call on Fanning is fair IMO, with a healthy Richards and Fraser all of a sudden he will be struggling for games, which would be a good thing, because he can develop his game down at Willy, and not be thrown to the wolves

but also, if Richards and Fraser stay fit, they will be rucking for the best part of the next 6-8 seasons (maybe not Josh), and Fanning becomes a management issue as to him been disgruntled without game time etc.

of course everything concerning Richards and Josh has to go well for this to eventuate, but i can see Fanning sitting on the Pies list for a few more seasons learning the caper but perhaps not going anywhere

MarkT your definition of "making it" and MM's definition seem to be different.
As are our definitions if success, failure, fat, slow, soft and accountability.

IMO making it is becoming at least a solid player, Holland has 'made it' even O'Bree has, not making it is being delisted/offloaded within 5 years.
Agree re Holland. O'Bree is the problem in a nutshell. Yes he has made it - because Malthouse has accepted his inconsistent brand of soft slow poorly skilled low impact football. We finished second to Brisbane twice and I bet had O'Bree stayed there he wouldn't have "made it". Had he been at Essendon he would have made it to another club for a good draft pick or an under appreciated player.

Just to put in context what he actually said
"I reckon seven of the nine will push for real senior selection next year. (For) the other two, the jury's out, but there's a very strong indicator that they will be around as well,"
Fair enough. He also said Fanning and Fraser will make an imposing ruck combination a short while back. I guess our definition of imposing is different too. Hell our definition of ruckmen is different.

Good Call,
I really dont think O'bree would get a game in too many other midfields in the competition. Hi ball getting ability is very good, he just makes really bad decisions when he gets rid of it.
At best you would want him to be the player that gives your star midfielder that 5 minutes on the bench and then rotate him through the forward line.
Fanning is never gonna become a key rickman. He tried 100% I'll give him that, but its 100% of nothing! Cant kick, mark, tap or read the play. You sort of need that to play AFL.
Our best hope of a ruckman would be Guy Richards if he can stay healthy and Josh as a cameo from the forward line.
