Are you talking about the Nick Maxwell role (which comes with captaincy)?
The Maxwell role is a different role ( and one Malthouse is likely to employ) that I would think Laidler, injury permitting is more likely to play. Though in fairness to Laidler he can actually play on an opponent as well.

I suppose Collingwood have filled the defender that can't kick role with Toovey. This is not a role that Hawthorn employ.

While I don't agree with the tail wagging the dog, Walker backed it up immediately. He was in and out of the side because of injury, but he was miserable because he wasn't being utilised.

Walker often copped criticism for butchering the ball out of defence although I didn't agree with it back then. All of our defenders tend to cop that accusation but it is embellished greatly. Russell has and now Joseph has, mainly because it is more noticeable and costly back there. Who would want to be a defender?

Anyway, the proof is in the pudding. His best year was up forward but he also enjoys midfield. We need his attitude and his strength in the centre but need his marking ability and recovery skills up forward. He is very much a confidence player. He and Gibbs should only go back as the designated utilities when something goes wrong injury wise during a game or we are getting smashed and have to shake things up.

Good post ODN. Spot on from start to finish.:thumbsu:

1. High focus on boundary line play. Lots of blocking/shepherding/borderline illegal tactics off the ball.
2. All teams just follow the cluster****-follow-the-football structure, so no changes here. We don't have the personnel to win 1v1 marking contests so it'll just be what to do with the onballers and who is more damaging in certain field positions.
3. Gibbs moved, yarran experimented with, walker solidified somewhere other than a random dice roll, more midfield rotations through the forward line, 1 main ruck option and a part-timer, no more 3 witches hats.
4. The personnel who actually give a shit. Thanks for your services Garlett. Mick is friends with nobody and will demand a bunch of footballers who are there to play instead of having a kick with mates.
5. Lucas, Thornton (if he had stayed), Ellard, Joseph. There was nothing wrong with these players from a potential point of view.

Along with Bower, Joseph should never and I mean never, play another game for the Navy Blues !!! Both should be delisted in the next round of sackings.

I have a customer who is an ex carlton player, spoke with him yesterday, he was recently at an ex players function, said they all felt for Ratts, Sticks was still gutted, said that Mick is chomping at the bit is as keen as mustard, cannot wait is getting into it already has spent heaps of time at the club, all day last Friday. Making heaps of changes and more to come once the season is over, then he left before I could delve further.

So more changes, I guess coaching and who knows, all a bit 'cloke' and dagger.....

Absolutely, both served their time in the back half, just as Ratten did when he first started. They were top 2 draft picks who were recruited as midfielders. When you spend half of your career plugging holes and sacrificing your game because you are not recruiting genuine back pockets, then you would be excused for thinking you will never make the mark you think you are capable of. Walker got an opportunity, grabbed it with both hands, I'd hate to punish him by sending him back again. Get a genuine small/medium defender with pace, guts and mongrel. Duigan is close but needs more pace. Where is our version of Richmond's Morris?

This is why i like the idea of Toy. can get him cheap, has skill, pace & poise and was All Australian U/18 playing in this role.

Never had it as a junior at PEGS either, has great poise but there is talk he will never have a tank because of medical reasons...
I feel for the kid though. His father passed away only a few years ago and he's been up at the Gold Coast since only a little bit since his passing. His girlfriend seems to be up there with him though.

Seems like pretty good mates with big Watto but they both seem like big Essendon fans like the rest of the PEGS folks.

Will there be any changes in the Recruiting Dept?

Malthouse doesn't control the recruiting department so I would suggest Rogers will remain since the club promoted him from assistant to keep him.

Hurts me to say this as I loathe them, but I hope we take a huge look at the Crows previous pre season. Sanderson came in, ditched the bikes and mindless running, and had them wrestling, boxing, grappling. Really focusing on contest

I love that
Mick will be tackling coach don't not talent to apply pressure

Mick keep Rogers on he's toe's and everyone on footy department believe you me

I know you are just talking up Malthouse's presence around the club and I know he will tell people what he wants, but he is not a recruiter and does not know more than every person at the club. He gets what he needs to coach, he does not control the club. I actually despise suggestions that Carlton is this great basketcase club that needs a messiah to straighten it out. He's just one guy, an experienced coach with reasonable success behind him.

I was looking forward to seeing what he could do with this list, but sheesh, between the denigration of Ratten and the absolute hero worship of Malthouse before he has even taken his coat off, some of the over the top stuff is just a bit too much to bear.

Malthouse should leave the recruiters alone to do their jobs. I have seen no reason for Rogers to need to be dictated to by Malthouse. Mick gives his wish list, Rogers finds it and lets him know. Mick is not Rogers' employer.

You tell me. Who is the General Manager of Football Operations?

Not that the man is one of ours, what changes to we expect with Malthouse at the helm?

1. Game-plan changes?
2. Structural changes?
3. Player position changes?
4. Which players will operate better under Malthouse?
5. Which players may get more games under Malthouse and why?
ronnie burns just made a "tounge in cheek comment"on the radio as good as claiming he will be a skills coach at carlton next year, so i geuss he can teach them to drink.
