Our most important ooc signing this year and a hugely important one. I was worried another team would offer him a godfather deal great to have him locked in.

One of our more important players, especially because his elite half forward work releases Miers up to the wing. He gives both our forward line and midfield a bit of extra spark as a connector.

We'll probably need more of those forward 50 cameos now that Stengle is out too.

Very glad to have secured him long term.

agree with this, he only got a one year extension last year, seem like the club werent sure going forward with him but his last half of the year was crazy good. also hearing him in interviews and general clips he seems like a good locker room guy, especially with the young guys.

"Listen young one, I had to wait. You guys have the early call so make sure you make the most of it". E&OE.

Like this a lot.
He’s late to the AFL game.. but shows what perseverance and the continuation of the fight to succeed can do.

Good example for others and shows once again that we will take chances on diamonds on the rough.

Also this will be his big $ boost as his first deal and 1 year extension will prob have been lower so this his big one.
Probably gave the club reduced market rate too in some capacity.

A talent and good bloke for the club.
Need we say it again… IWWT

GO CATTERS

We have done the one year deals quite a bit with emerging players. Zac Guthrie and Humphries both initially did the same I think. We haven't had the money to give them fully what they deserve so they sign for one initially then when we free up more cap space they get a deal more in line with what they are worth.

I actually like how selfish he is.
None of that 'oh can I find another option?'

Nup. Get ball, take a shot.
Yes and no. He has burned a few teammates on occasions.
This team is not as altruistic as some of our past lineups, who seemed to take more pride in dishing off goals. Stengle and Dempsey can be a little selfish and a few others who don’t mind taking potshots. As long as he’s landing a good percentage of those shots I’ll reserve judgement.
Lets check back in a year or so

No need to check back in a year or so.

37 AFL games played and Mannagh averages:

17.4 disposals
1.4 goals
0.8 goal assists
6.6 score involvements
3.1 clearances
4.6 tackles
3.5 inside 50s

That stat line holds up with almost any half forward in the league.

65% of his score involvements are not his own scoring shots, so he must still be dishing off to teammates quite a bit. He was our highest rated kick inside 50 last season for retention by a teammate.

He usually has one blast away moment every three weeks or so, and it sticks in people's memories.

People carry on like he's KB or Boomer though, and he just isn't, as your numbers show.

Same with how he gets caught every now and then. You take the good with the bad when he's always trying to move the ball forward.

He's like a poor man's Stevie J, and that's a complement.

Pretty much. You see the same thing much more regularly with attackers in soccer or basketball, but there is a ruthless unforgivingness applied to AFL players.

Obviously it's an issue if it happens frequently, but like you say it's more a case of if sticking in the memory - as we are talking about something that happens maybe once every 40ish disposals he has. Of Mannagh's 2.6 shots on goal per game (meaning 15 disposals per game aren't shots on goal) I'd wager the majority of them are pragmatic options.

Mr Meow, although from the get-go I've been a big favourite of Shaun Mannagh but in his earlier games his selfishness with taking pot-shots at goal with other team-mate's being in a better position was definitely an issue and I posted as much here on Geelong BigFooty at the time pointing to that fact. But as games progressed he thankfully improved dramatically, to the point where his selfishness rarely became an issue. Mr Meow, there's no doubt a bit of the old selfishness has returned this year but personally I reckon he is too good and smart of a footballer but also too good of a team and clubman not to mend his ways. Shaun's a gun footballer as you've quite rightly pointed out a number of times and I'm sure in coming games we'll see him get back to his dynamic best which btw also includes his tacking and defensive/pressure side of his game which can be brilliant, but also making sure he takes the teams best options on the majority of occasions.
