MRP / Trib. Mansell Suspended 3 Weeks - Suspension Upheld

This is the type of thing that really shits me

I completely understand how in today’s climate the head needs to be protected but under these circumstances I really don’t think Mansell had any other options other to bump

Both players running for the ball and Mansell was pipped at the last second but at point the collision was already going to happen so Mansell did whatever he could to protect himself as every player has the right to do

He didn’t come in late or elect to bump when he had other options, didn’t leave the ground and did everything he could to try and prevent and minimise contact with Aish’s head without opening himself up to injury

We have no chance contesting high because it was a head knock and severe because he was concussed. Our only way to beat the charge is challenging the classification of careless.
Was it a head knock? I thought it was shoulder on shoulder with Aish experiencing a bit of a whiplash effect due to speed and angle of contact. I really like Mansell's hardness.

As a fringe player if he DIDNT go hard at the ball they’d be calls from all that he shirked it and should be dropped for his effort.

Reality is football is a contact sport and sometimes collisions occur where no one is at fault and it’s part of the game.

If he gets suspended I’ll be extremely pissed off

Doesn't put bums on seats, not a brownlow medallist and his last name isn't Cripps. Life with no possibility of parole. Wonder if the club will just lie down and cop it like we always do or actually grow a set. And if Fridge goes too that's even worse. Blow the whistle earlier you campaigner

my mind is blown at the reports of 4.

Dangerfield would not get 4 for that. Cotchin wouldn't get 4 for that.

Doing it to a kid just breaking into a team is literally threatening this kids career. He might not get back in team & is out of contract at the end of the season.

"...avoid acts which can be reasonably forseen".
We need to successfully argue that Mansell only had eyes on the ball, both players did, both players were within their rights to contest the ball together and the time taken to avoid contact was unreasonable to expect Mansell to slow down or stop.

I think another point we will/should raise is the bounce of the ball.

No player would be able to reasonably predict how the ball will bounce, and if we watch the replay again, the ball bounces back into Aish at the very last second before the two players collide.

If the ball bounces any differently, and we either get a situation where Mansell gets his hands on the ball first instead of Aish, or we have two players colliding into each other with neither having hands on the ball (does that mean both are suspended?).

I think the reports of 4 is dependent on how we argue at the tribunal.

If we plead guilty to all charges, then we would probably get the lowest charge available, which would be 3 weeks.

If we decided to challenge any part of the charge, the AFL will view it as a 'lack of remorse' or whatever BS they come up with, and push for 4 weeks.

He should have done it to Stewart, when we played them lol. Makes the weeks worth it.

You can't accept 3 and be considered sane though. It look like an accidental impact caused by 1 player committed to get the ball and bracing for impact & another player having an equal amount of time, space and awareness to also commit to getting the ball, but ALSO bracing for impact to protect himself. He litereally took zilch duty of care when he chose to enter the contest in the EXACT same way. The club should argue based on the victims duty of care to also make due diligence to ensure safety to ALL PARTIES (including YOURSELF ) has to be considered. The ruling desperately needs this logic applied because this is getting crazY. No way Broad & Mansell can get 8 weeks combined for 2 things like this?

He will get off. Had eyes for the ball except for the very last second when he saw Aish. He braced for contact (which he is allowed to do) and Aish clipped his shoulder as part of a football collision.

So did he choose to bump? No. In fact, he reached the ball a split second before Aish which will work in his favour.

In terms of alternatives, what were they? He couldn’t tackle as Aish didn’t have the ball. He couldn’t evade as Mansell didn’t have the ball. He couldn’t slow down or dodge as he was trying to get to the ball first. And he didn’t deviate from his path at any stage to get Aish in the head.

If he goes it’ll be because he’s a ‘no-name’ easy target. But if tribunal do their job he won’t get suspended. If he does then the game is changed forever where you are no longer entitled to go 100% for the ball, as if a head knock ensues from an accidental collision even when choosing ‘not’ to bump you can get rubbed out.

Hell get 5 his a tiger. How many times you need to be told the corruption thrives in the afl especially against us. Even watching the VFL we got reamed I turned it off for the second half as it is becoming a joke we need Batman to take over the afl to save us.

Good call...suspend both for carelessness!

Surprised Graham isn't up for the sling tackle lol but they still have time might as well rub it in :(
And bring the umpire along that allowed the sling tackle to go on...explain to the tribunal please, why you let the sling tackle go on, before blowing the whistle to desist!
