What about DeGoey, he wasn't contesting the ball in any way jumped off the ground to make a deliberate bump, result 3 weeks.

Now how in the f@ck can they judge Mansells bump as the same, it was only a couple of weeks ago ffs, reduction given for star power? what BS

For the effort the club put in to contest it and appeal it why even bother

mansell should take em to court now. this could kill his career

Calm down broseph. It won’t kill his career.

He’ll be back. The one thing I hope mini says to him is to not change how he attacks the ball. Just stiff this time.

It will do the opposite of kill his career, the club will back him more than ever. It was bloody tough and courageous not to take short steps when plenty of players would have.

with where his career is at and 3 weeks out at a time like this he won't want mrj, cumbo or others to look too flash that's for sure

Every time something like this happens, my love for the game dies a little bit.
They’re killing it and eventually they’ll lose the fans and there’ll be nothing left.

100% - and worse, I feel these stupid interpretations are just as likely to lead to further injuries because players - rather than trying to avoid injuries - deliberately put themselves in harm's way in order to win free kicks

Disagree on that, 2 weeks for board would have been fine.
Tom Stewart got 4 weeks for an off the ball KO.

On VOG-L09 using BigFooty.com mobile app
And if Stewart did that this year he'd have got 5+. Broad pinned both arms, slung him 2 motions, slammed his head into rhe ground outside of play. That's been 3+ for a decade.

Time are changing....

Stewart didn't do it in 1973. He did it about 20 games ago.

Stewart takes 4 steps after Prestia had tapped the ball away from the area and elects to bump Prestia, and with a horrendous shoulder first action. Impacts nothing but head. 4 weeks.

24 weeks of football later...

Mansell is following the line of the ball, and goes with a hip first brace into an unavoidable collision. Impacts mainly body with incidental head contact. 3 weeks.

It. Doesn't. Add. Up.

What Stewart did was demonstrably orders of magnitude worse than what Mansell did.

Late v in contest.

Nowhere near ball v totally in line with ball.

Opponent no reason to expect contact v opponent every reason to expect contact.

Horrendously dangerous shoulder first bumping action v safer hip first bumping action.

Nothing but head contacted v mainly body with incidental head contact.

Action outside the laws of the game v inside the laws of the game.

Victim known to be going to miss almost 2 whole games min v unkown but 1 game min.

Geelong player v Richmond player.

4 weeks suspension v 3 weeks suspension.

There is no way anyone can say those are in line. And less way anyone can rightly argue the passing of 20 weeks of football justifies that lack of parity. The laws of the sport have not changed.

How the farq can the afl penalise this the same as de gooy??
De gooy jumped off the ground with the intent of making high contact!!
This game is unfortunately years away from becoming a professionally administered organisation. Shame.

Any decision on his future won’t be based on that

yes but afl is cut-throat and he isn't the kind of player to automatically get an extension. if we win 3 games in a row and look the goods while he's out he may not get the chance to show his worth again in the top level this year. 3 weeks out is certainly a huge deal for a player like mansell

Yeah last year before the class action started, correct.

As I said, times are changing.
