Auto.

Seriously who the **** would drive a manual car unless its a money issue?

OMG wtf are you talking about? Who would drive an automatic unless its a competance issue.

I don't know what to do with myself in an automatic; its boring, you have less control over the car, its boring, did i mention ITS BORING.

Its not a money issue at all i just prefer driving a manual, they take off quicker and you are in control of what your car does. I'm perplexed at the amount of people who drive autos and then I remember that most people are incompetant and lazy.

Because the whole 0.1 seconds out of 8 is a massive difference. WHOA!!!!! BTW my car's auto box is at least 0.5 second quicker to the hundred than the manual is. If I want to have 'more control' over the car, guess what, go into tiptronic mode. WHOA!!! But because I have an auto, I'm incompetent  Fly back to Australia and we'll go down to Mallala and we'll see.

What a pity you are in London then...

nicky, being fast is nothing to brag about. Safety should be a priority, not speed. That's what kills so many people on the roads each year.

You do know most people who drive automatics have taken their driving test in a manual car?

I've got my manual and I drive a manual. I was thinking of getting my auto licence but I would have copped so much **** from my mates so I didn't. Now I'm very happy I got my manual licence because its much funner to drive a manual car and in an emergency I can drive any car. Manual is annoying during peak hour, when you're crawling. I'm happy to drive either but prefer manual, I dont hold anything against people who want to drive an auto, its everyones own choice.

Or so they say. But trust me, none have, they are just trying to hide their shame. ;)

Yes...Geelong boy knows lots;) I do race cars BTW, so more than likely, have driven manual, but out of choice, I drive an auto, but hey what would I know ;)
Computer game racing doesn't count ;)

Your car is actually a Volkswagen Golf R32, in America it had the shorter title 'Volkswagen R32'.

It is not a GTI, it is vastly better. The GTI in that series (Mark IV) was a front wheel drive and four cylinder vehicle. Does your car have GTI badging? It shouldn't, providing it is not a very rare, largely unknown variant of the R32. To my knowledge a Golf IV can only be an R32 OR a GTI, not both. Calling an R32 a 'GTI' is doing a disservice to your car.
No it doesn't say 'GTi' on it at all, just 'R32,' but I just thought that it was one.

I'm a little confused as to why somebody who claims: speed isn't an important factor to me would own an R32. The extra purchase price, fuel usage and insurance premiums would be money severely wasted if this were true. Why buy an 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds car if not for the performance?:) Just buy a regular Golf and save a pile of $$$$$.

Unless you are not incurring these costs.
I bought my car from my employer, so it was very well priced indeed, and I liked the idea of owning a 6-speed manual for fun. They were the important factors, and it's power was not. That just came along with it! My insurance has been added to my employer's policy too, and I just pay my share at a much better rate than I could have on my own as an Australian in America.

I would be surprised if that was the case. Have you got any statistics to support that?

Have you got any statistics to disprove it?

More people than not drive Automatic cars and I'd say about 90% of people go for manual licenses.

You're not supposed to answer a question with a question! Of course I don't have figures to disprove it because it's usually the person that makes such a statement that should be able to back it up I would have thought.

Where did you get this 90% from? Did you make it up, is it just a wild guess, or do you have any figures to support it? I would be surprised if anything like 90% of people that drive automatics, got their licence in a manual car.

The whole argument about manual vs automatic is a pointless one, basically all it comes down to is that people drive manuals for one of two reasons: They were forced to drive a manual whilst learning to drive, or people like kiss stephanie drive them because they think it makes them superior to everyone else. Driving is about getting from point A to point B, the better the quality of your car the more enjoyable the drive.

Under location your profile lists Seattle and Atlanta.

The car is in Seattle?

If it is in Seattle:

Choosing an R32 was a good idea for another reason.

Seattle is one of the most rainy cities in the USA? I think it was in Seattle where earlier this year it rained every day for over a month!

By having a Golf with all-wheel drive you have superior traction to a front-wheel drive Golf. This advantage would be even more pronounced on the wet and slippery roads you could be frequently encountering.

Manual licence, but driving an auto car.
Whilst I agree that manual cars are a bit more fun to drive, i just want to get from point A to point B so I would prefer to do it in a more comfortable and easier way, so auto for me.
If i do have another car and it's manual, i don't mind driving a bit occasionaly, just go for a short distance drive for a bit 'fun'.

I have a 6 speed manual, as thats all my car comes in :D

I learnt in an auto, my 1st car was an auto (colt), then bought my 1st niceish car (99 lancer) which was a manual and my dad took me for a drive that day. Then, the night i got it, i finished work at 12am and went driving for an hour to get used to it (less cars around to make fun of me:cool: )

then bought an auto ****box (84 ford hatch)( i was buying a house) then got a manual (FTO)when i got offered the job in WA (no more house) then bought another manual (Corolla riced up) sold that and got another manual (Lancer VRX) then bought my current 6 speed (EVO 9)

2 autos (both crappy) rest manuals, much better!!!

I guess my manuals were more later models and my auto's were late, but i sawy to the manual

only an auto driver would say that.

Exactly my point! Some people can multi-task a lot better than others can, while others worry about changing gears because they need things to be very easy for them to be able to relax. I find it very relaxing to drive a 6-speed manual myself, and I don't worry about changing gears whatsoever because it just happens naturally to me without thinking about it at all.

Good point kissstephanie. Changing gears and fancy footwork with the clutch are second nature to me.

I've been known to sip my drink, smoke a ciggarette, change gears and talk on my phone at the same time. It's too easy, i need a new challenge... maybe i could juggle as well. ;) :D

I'm currently learning in a manual, so much better, especially on the open road when you go to select your top gear at good speed. I love that feeling :D

I haven't had a hell of a lot of experience in traffic, but I've had enough. I've driven to places like the footy where it's choc-a-block on the roads and no troubles.

Hill starts are pains, I have to start using my handbrake more!
