Auto.

Requires a lot less skill to drive safely.
Should we take the opinion of a man who failed his driving test 7 times. Or did he complete it on the 7th attempt. Either way i don't think so.

The whole argument about manual vs automatic is a pointless one, basically all it comes down to is that people drive manuals for one of two reasons: They were forced to drive a manual whilst learning to drive, or people like kiss stephanie drive them because they think it makes them superior to everyone else.
I wasn't forced to drive a manual, and although driving a manual takes more skill, I don't feel I'm superior for it.

An automatic is not any safer than a manual. If anything, a manual is safer because the driver has more control over the car.
Choosing an R32 was a good idea for another reason. Seattle is one of the most rainy cities in the USA? I think it was in Seattle where earlier this year it rained every day for over a month!

By having a Golf with all-wheel drive you have superior traction to a front-wheel drive Golf. This advantage would be even more pronounced on the wet and slippery roads you could be frequently encountering.
I'm in New York City now, but I don't drive as much because of the 24 hour subway, but I do have a new car now. Because of the recession, the deal was too good to refuse, and I'm lucky enough to have free secure undercover parking in my building. I own a brand new 2009 VW GTI turbo 6-speed manual.

gee that was a long reply.

im MANUAL all the way, ive owned 3 autos and 3 manuals, and im never going back to auto unless its too good a deal to pass up.

manuals are more fun, have more control, and you actually become a better driver, by being able to control your speed perfectly.

autos are for plebs.

my last car was a BA XR8 ute. There was no way I was going to waste that on an auto. My current vehicles are a little runabout Echo for city driving (manual) and my motorcycle which is obviously a manual.

Auto.

Would never drive manual unless I wanted to sound 'cool', given guys should probably know how to drive a manual since we have nuts.

Regardless, I couldn't really give a shit about driving manual, since I use a car to get from point A to B, and don't really give a shit about that control stuff as I don't hoon drive (eg speed, drag race or whatever the ****)

so u dont want to get from A to B faster, cheaper and safer, without breaking the law?

autos are just for lazy, unaware drivers.

I obviously don't know much about cars.

a) How is a car going to get me from point a to b faster? I only drive around the suburbs and city, no country driving at all for me, if this is what you're going by.

b) Are we talking about (unleaded) petrol amount per 100 km?

c) How on earth is a manual safer? I basically follow road rules like a goody two shoes, and always attempt to never do anything remotely considered as stupid.

And yes, I am serious about these questions, so any laughing at my lack of knowledge regarding manual vs automatic is probably verified lol.

Get your license on a manual, drive an auto.

I like manuals because of the control you have over the car but with peak hour traffic, an auto is the only way to go.

I remote areas if for some reason your car won't start (battery or starter failure) you can always push start a manual.

That happened to us in 1986 when We went form Meekatharra to Mackay across the middle of OZ in a HZ .

The alternator would not quite keep up with the four spotties and when the wires got wet going through a creek between Warburton and Giles and the engine stopped . A quick spray of CRC and a quick push start and we were on our way again.

Luckily I had replaced the Auto with a manual. Now when ever I pull up somewhere I always leave the engine running just in case.

Can drive both, got a an auto car but would prefer a manual. More fun and more control with the manual. Although the car I have has 1,2 and 3 so that goes alright.

Could never drive an auto, would fall asleep due to boredom.

Cruise control, on the other hand, is awesome, although i wouldn't use it on a long haul trip for safety reasons :P

While I think the whole auto vs manual: which is better? argument is a pointless waste of time. One thing that does piss me off is people that "can't" drive a manual car because they "don't know how." And when I say people, what I really mean is women. And when they say "can't" what they really mean is wont learn because it's easier to have other people drive. Nothing pisses me off more than when you're doing logistics for a trip involving a lot of people, and you end up losing a car and 3 people end up doing all the driving because some people "can't" drive a manual car. WTF do you mean "CAN'T"!?!?! You're 30 years old! Is your left leg amputated? There is no can’t here, you’ve just put it all in the too hard basket. Is a basic skill of life in a modern society! I drive both.

I run my own tile/bathroom business and I drive a manual van simple because it handles the weight better than an auto (auto transission is much more likely to f*ck up when consistently carrying heavy loads of 1 tonne plus).

My non work car is auto because the missus cant drive manual.

But if you had to make a choice between the 2, it's 50/50 IMO. You get better control with a manual but nothing sucks more than driving a manual in heavy traffic.

I can drive both but I've got auto license in the meantime until I get my green P's. Damn red P's!

Oh and another thing!

I dont look down on people who cant or dont like to drive manual BUT if you play Daytona in auto, then I think you suck balls.

Manual License
Auto Car
Same. I voted manual in the poll but my opinion could be influenced heavily by how crap my car is. Goes through a shitload of petrol and the transmission is a bit ****ed, takes at least 2-3 seconds longer to change up than it should. Also I don't do a lot of driving in the city or on roads with heavy traffic.

Really though I don't care, when I buy my first car I won't really be taking into account whether it's manual or auto. I will say though getting your auto license when you have a manual car to practice in is ridiculous.

lol i can't drive manual because i've never learned how to.

having said that, i'm pretty sure I could learn it easily, because i have testicles.

won't be doing it until the need arises though, or i'm less busy.

Its good too see manual winning in the polls.
-Manuals are cheaper
-Autos can't do hills well
-Manuals are more fuel efficient
-Autos are for unco pussies
-You can slow down using gears
-Its cooler and more fun
-It isnt a hassle like some of the auto drivers have been saying, its easy once you get used to it.
-You can drop the clutch and do burnouts with manuals ...lol
