Marc Murphy Vs Dale Thomas

I'm a Port Adelaide Power supporter so I'm not biased but I can tell you Marc Murphy is leagues above Thomas it ain't funny.
Murphy is shining in a struggling team, not easy to do when he doesn't get the support from him team mates. Thomas on the other hand is made to look much better than he is because he is on a team that is winning (at the moment), and being the reciever that he is, the hard work is done for him. He just has to find some space and the ball will be delivered to him.

And i am a Richmond supporter, and Murphy is a country mile above Thomas, Murphy is a shot for the rising star, Thomas isnt. And last night, Thomas WAS NOT IN THE BEST, he got the ball and handballed it or chip kicked it, he didnt have much of an impact at all.
If you have a look at all of the nominees so far for the rising star, you wouldnt think Thomas is above any of them at the moment.

I would love to have him at Port Adelaide, he will be a very good player 1 day.
I just don't think he is better than Marc Murphy.

I'd take Marc Murphy due to having a bit more ball magnet about him. Thomas still looks the goods in his role also, but I think Murphy is just a bit better equipped for this level at the moment, but give Thomas a bit of time, and he'll be very good also.

This really smells of an argument for the sake of sucking in us collingwood supporters . I will give you all what you want. Marc Murphy has definately been a better and more consistant player this year. So he should be , he was considered a number 1 standout by a country mile and looks every bit a number 1 draft pick. I for one am very happy we picked up thomas at number 2 especially after many people said Collingwood would regret it. He is still very raw and skinny but has been excellent . He has a massive upside. If I could choose between the two I would take murphy but CArlton won the spoon and we did not therefore it was not an option .

Both are going to be very good AFL footballers and both of them are also going to be very good personalities which is good for the game

i still think that he's built up considerably from the beginning of the season. He wont be skinny for much longer if he keeps playing at AFL level.

The really funny thing is we got Thomas because of an injury ridden season. Cartlton got Murphy because they suck as a football team. Who really won. Collingwood are up the top and Carlton still suck something shocking.

collingwood were right in selecting the x-factor they have the likes of swan, shaws, johnson, hollands etc which are similar players to murphy.

collingwood need a match winner a james hird style player (obviously we are talking in a couple of years time). hence, thomas.

carlton, need a player who can play consistent 4 quater footy with good skills and ball getting ability (ala. nick stevens) hence they chose murphy. i

can see it now its going to be another buckley, hird, voss debate. thomas and murphy are not really the same style of players, its like comparing buckley to hird, both stars both play in the guts but do not play alike.

having said all of this who knows if in 3 years time murphy and thomas have been eclipsed by someone like hurn and pendlbury.
