Been hearing the rumours lately that this chap wants out of Carlton and wondering how many of you would like to see him here in 2008 and what would we give for him?

Personally I was thinking Ryan Murphy + 2nd or 3rd rounder. Even though some people might say "don't trade picks", I think this is a good offer to trade picks for because we know how good this guy is.. and he does have some speed.

I cant see Murphy leaving Carlton. If we trade the best we want to use to get Palmer, Masten etc i will spit it. Murphy is good but he is another Hasleby.

And you honestly believe that would get the job done?

Mundy + 1st rounder would be more like it.

Yes I do believe it is enough, especially if this is the end of his contract, then he could PSD it and get away from Carlton.
Let's get a few things straight.

Ryan Murphy shows promise but we don't even know if he's going to "make it" yet. He's showed flashes of brilliance but overall he's still relatively unproven. And a 2nd round pick is good but not exactly a key pick.

That deal wouldn't even get close.

Sorry, just go ahead and cut my head off for just asking a simple question. Thanks for being so kind.

Sorry for posting again but just had a thought.

Hypothetically if Pavlich left. Could we do a 3 way trade with Carlton to get Murphy to Fremantle.

Something like:

Fremantle
Marc Murphy (from Carlton) + 2nd Round Pick (from Adelaide)

Adelaide
Pavlich (from Fremantle)

Carlton
1st Round Pick (from Adelaide) + (INSERT PLAYER HERE)

Just an idea... we wouldnt lose our 1st round pick going after murphy then....

Nice idea. I only started this thread cause I heard rumours that he was wanting out.

Yea he is a talented kid, most clubs would look at him if he wanted out. I just dont want to lose the picks we have as I want to try get Palmer and/or Masten.. Possibly rich

Indeed and after seeing the WA v Vic Metro game either of those would be good, or the captain of Vic Metro - he showed a lot of heart in a loss like that.

Pavlich is worth much more than Murphy and a second round pick.

Just floated the idea of the 3 way trade up... Maybe change it to this

Fremantle
Marc Murphy (from Carlton) + 2nd Round Pick (from Adelaide) + Van Berlo (from Adelaide)

Adelaide
Pavlich (from Fremantle)

Carlton
1st Round Pick (from Adelaide) + (INSERT PLAYER HERE)

Adelaide give up: 1st and 2nd Round Picks and Van Berlo
Carlton give up: Marc Murphy
Fremantle give up: Pavlich

Adelaide gain: Pavlich
Carlton gain: 1st Round Pick, (Insert Player)
Fremantle gain: Marc Murphy, Van Berlo and 2nd Round PIck

Probably closer to the mark, not sure if Marc Murphy is worth a first round pick and a player at this stage in his career though. Although to get him out of Carlton (which i cant see happening) i imagine thats the sort of compensation they'd like. If the draft wasn't such a crap shoot this would be a lot easier.

What? He was a number one pick and has not put a foot wrong in 28 games of AFL football. His potential is not just pie in the sky stuff, he has demonstrated plenty of ability. You think a pick probably just outside the top 10 and an unnamed player is too much for Murphy?

We would want elite for elite not two maybes for a player who is as close to a definite to have a long and distinguished career as any second year player I have seen.

I could understand devaluing Murph's number one selection if he had not shown much so far but to devalue him when he has already established himself as a gun is puzzling to say the least.

I have seen two rumour threads on club boards relating to Murphy today. Neither have revealed a source or even hinted at one.

Even if Murphy wanted out of Carlton I doubt he'd be interested in leaving Victoria. Otherwise he probably would've accepted Brisbane's offer.

I'd love him at Freo but to be honest I'd be very surprised if he left Carlton. He knew what he was getting into when he effectively chose them over Brissy.

Don't know about this rumour.
If murphy was unhappy with carlton and wanted to move he won't leave Victoria. If that is the case he would probably go to a victorian club.
Before he was traded to carlton,he was offered to Brisbane on the father and son rule(his father played for fitzroy) but he refused because he didnot want to move interstate.
So can't see him moving to the other side of the country.(freo)
But if he was unhappy at carlton,we'll take him at collingwood.

Only here to say heard on SEN this morning that he supposedly wants out, will be interesting where he goes (if)...maybe up north! cheers

Geez good trade week coming this year, Pavlich, Murphy, Judd, Dal Santo, Riewoldt (they may have signed but the media can still talk). Everyone thats out of contract to be traded this year apparently.

I meant he is worth more than a first round pick and a good player :)....not buying it? didnt think so. After I posted that I actually considered editing it but just couldnt be bothered.

Firstly, I wasn't trying to devalue Murphy, I have no doubt he will be a gun. Secondly, I hadnt really considered when Adelaides pick would be, as you pointed out it will more than likely be just outside the top ten, increasing the 'lucky dip' factor. When i think first round i think top 5, although i should really think pick 47 as thats usually when freo's first selection is.

You're actually quite right though, given how he has played so far Murphy would quite comfortably be worth a mid-late first round selection and a good player on the trade table. Not that I think Carlton would be stupid enough to agree to it.
