I dont mind the scientology thing, that doesnt affect state politics, as Macjoe pointed out. What I dont like is he making an agreement/alliance/whatever it is with Redmond, he has quit state politics, he cant have it both ways.

Did you have objections to Rudd and Abbott appearing at the ALP and Liberal Campaign launches?

He has as much, if not more right to do being someone whose worked with both of them to make qualified comment.

On the greens, Mark Parnell is a very impressive individual from what I have seen in Parliament.

sure we won't all agree with all of the Greens policies but I think he is honest, balanced and fair, which says a lot in relation to some of the peanuts in the upper house.

The main problem with Mr X was that he was a one issue politician who has managed to elect two peanuts in his wake. Their complete lack of sophisticated contirbution on political issues is hard to take.

Mr X is more than entitled to support whoever he likes in the State election. Thought I wonder how he will see Redmond when she has been in power for eight years.

For me, its forget about the personalitiels and look at the issues.

No, thats kind of expected isnt it?

What other federal senator has been active in this campaign?

On the last page Bob Brown and Sarah Hanson-Young were on radio.

Don Farrell is pulling alot of strings.

Wong's made water announcements.

I can keep going ...

I think you have a personal problem with Nick X

And I have to tell you, what I heard from Bob and Sarah was impressive - I suspect the Greens will top my Legislative Council voting

If you were at Adelaide Uni, and not a ridiculously out of touch hippie, then you too would likely have an intense hatred of the media whoring slag. She managed to piss away the entire yearly Student Association budget in a matter of months grandstanding for her future political career several times, and was virtually on her own the reason behind the larger than expected student support at Adelaide Uni of the removal of compulsory unionism.

I've started voting below the line specifically to vote for her absolutely last, behind the Communist Party, Legalise Cannabis party, Gun Party and the National Socialist party. The stuck up, ignorant bitch still managed to get a spot, courtesy of our convoluted upper house system.

Bob Brown, whacky. The Green's are a single issue party, they aren't worth the time or effort. Rather than enforce compromise, they make extreme demands that no government can ever sanely meet, and then try to block everything when it fails.

Oh, how I lament the death of the Democrats. It may be hard to believe, but I too was once an idealistic teenager with political interests, and I joined the Democrats as a student shortly before Meg Lees started the death spiral. I had a good time letterboxing leaflets in my local area, and then had the good fortune to be subjected to torrents of abuse from hundreds of voters over "selling us out" while handing out how to vote cards outside a polling station in the 2001 election. This coming in a blue ribbon Liberal seat.

You've just described most of the student politicians I've ever encountered.

Only this one managed to latch onto the Green Party just as they were ascending in the Senate, and snagged a Senate seat from the run off much the same way the two X-Peanuts managed to do in the Legislative Council. Annoys me greatly.

Exactly the reason I wished there was voluntary student unionism when I was at uni - I hated paying $150-$200 a semester for something I never used or wanted.

Student Union board directors still get paid up to 5 figures a year with VSU. Most of them just use it to advance themselves within the ALP and nothing ever gets done. It's a disgrace.

I couldn't agree more about Anne Bressington, totally crazy bitch.

John Darley however is a reasonable, intelligent man who for lack of a better word isn't a 'politician'.

The ALP is in Unis?

When I was there the three loudest voices were the Greens - I have a great anecdote about a Green candidate quite sincerely explaining how she refused to de-sex her cat because it removed the animal's right to choice -, the Young Liberals, and Red Faction (or whatever the hardcore, violence-advocating communist party was called), never heard a whisper about the ALP in all my years there... unless I completely misunderstood some acronyms on the ballots I submitted voting for that years joke candidate from the Engineering Students?

Vote #1 for the Party Party!
Vote #1 for Celery!

There's the Adelaide Uni election from 2 years ago.

Really makes VSU seem like a god send!

That is an incredibly accurate account of student politics/student elections - particularly the childish bickering over the most minor of issues. In fact the UniSA student association was so inept back in the compulsory days in my first year alot of first year students had to vote absentee as they hadn't updated the electoral roll!

The comment early on that just 170/20 000 students are union members shows why VSU was needed in universities - clearly the overwhelming majority consider them to be a rip off. Even in compulsory days there was great apathy - I heard reports as little of 2% of the campus had voted when I was studying!

I despised the student union (and I somewhat despise all unions to this day as a result) because they were forcing me to pay, what is to a uni student, an exhorbinant amount of money for either duplicate or needless services.

I think Chris Lilley should do a mockumentary on student unions - maybe a sequel to Summer Heights High where Ja'mie and Jonah are competing for union president :D

that video
& especially that David bloke. I have tears in my eyes, haha

I've had tutes with him and he's the ultimate self righteous w***er.

I really love their constant referrals to 'critical services' as if most students are eer going to use the child care or education officers. I really don't understand the function of student unions.

But a week to polling day! Gotta say at this point I'd still back my prediction in the second post in the thread. Having said that Rann has performed a bit worse than I expected and has never seemed to find a rhythm or message. Should he get returned I would expect Foley to lead the ALP to the 2014 election.

I dont have a personal problem with X at all, I have voted for him in the past, I like that he seems like he is active in his political pursuits, but for some reason it is just annoying me this election campaign how is still trying to make it all about him.

In that case I think your misinterpreting it.

He's kept his mouth shut for all but one day of the campaign, at which point he endorsed someone.

Seems like a perfectly reasonable course of action to me.

It's hardly as if he's made a habit of it the past 3 weeks.

Foley won't get near the premiership Jo. Definitely lacks the personal support for that role. Its an open race, but my bet is Weatherill will be the next premier.

Foley is the man that all parties need, the bloke to be the mouthpiece to deliver the hard line that they know won't always be popular with voters even from their own party. He'll never win a popular vote IMO, and he does't give the impression that he wants that anyway.

I'd vote for Jay, he looks to be biding his time until he breaks into the current inner circle.

People are confusing should be with will be. Barring a total collapse of publc support the right faction will not allow a left leader. If not Foley then Conlon or Kout unfortunately.

Never underestimate the 12 faceless men affect if the ALP

it won't be Conlon or Kout either, and everyone knows it. Conlon has less support than Foley and Kout, well I leave that one alone.

If Liberals get in, it would be good to see if it brings more front bench talent. Right now behind Redmond the cupboard looks fairly bare.

With just under a week to go, the latest Sunday Mail opinion poll is saying that the Libs are in front 51-49 (Brad Crouch wrote the article though, and he makes Rucci look like a star journalist). However, with other recent opinion polls that Labor will retain Bright and Newlands, I still can't see the Libs gaining enough seats to win.
