Did anyone see the Today Tonight report on the 'Family First' issue? Probably the most stunningly biased piece of political journalism I have ever seen. It would so biased it clouded the initial point of the story which is a very legitimate one.

I kid not the following story is true:

My parents and I were enjoying some champagne brought home to toast Atkinson's resignation and the TV was left on in the background and TT just happened to be playing.

That story came on and since it was condemning the ALP's disgraceful strategy re Family First we left it on.

When they got to Atkinson there were tears of laughter all round. Worst AG ever etc. Sensational stuff if a week too late.

Whilst it was biased as hell the sad thing is that
a) it's all true
b) the ALP still won.

Interesting fact for you all Rann's going to retire having won 3 elections two of which he lost the 2pp vote.

The sad thing for the Democrats is that it only took one decision by Meg Lees (agreeing to pass the GST through the senate) to destroy the credibility of that party forever. Meg Lees stated that "they would never support a GST that included food", yet backflipped and voted it through the senate. At the time my mum and dad who always voted for the Democrats in the Senate said that they would never vote for the democrats ever again, judging from their results since that occurred there are obviously many others that also feel this way.

Bullshit.

you can thank Cheryl Kernot for destroying that party.

It may have been true, but the tone was that of an editorial rather than informative journalism. You could have been mistaken for watching a campaign ad.

On your last point, Kim Beazley called, he wants his 1998 election back.

Well it was Today Tonight ;)

Will be intersting to see if Atko goes his usual route of defammation action or whether he's only content doing this with the Cabinet indemnifying him and his defamer unable to adequately defend themselves.

Yep, the Westminster system can be a bitch.

Its going to be interesing. My limtied knowledge tells me the right have a strong grip on the party and see no chance of Weatherill getting up.

It seems he is going hard early in light of the fact that the key figures in the right will cop the blame for the defeat.

Uh....

It's articles like this one that's seen me switch to either Full House or Eastenders at 6:30pm. Even their 'Dummies' on Friday night is pure Labor bashing

Does anyone know if is it possible to view a copy of that report anywhere?
( i looked on the yahoo/today tonight website but that story doesnt appear)

anyone see the 7pm project? They featured the bloke I mentioned before with the Spam t-shirt, Tom Kenyon. They showed his speech after claiming victory he stated he wants to help build a better state, and then said he just wants to have fun.

Is this bloke for real? He seems like an absolute dumbass, I know first impressions can be deceiving but Im pretty local member.

There's a special website for today tonight Adelaide that'll probably have it. Worth looking at purely for the lolz.

Apparently the video is doing the rounds amongst the state's judiciary!

It will be crucial whether Fox & Hill finally win their seats (very likely at this stage) in regards to the leadership ballot as neither are aligned. Hill is a strong compromise candidate for the premiership and will probably try to keep his hands clean, so he might support Foley or an alternative right candidate to ensure a smooth transition to the leadership later on. Fox's intentions are unknown, but backing Weatherill as deputy is likely. If both back Weatherill, it'll be a nail biter, as some on the Right may choose to dissent. By declaring his intention for the deputy role, he is clearly showing his hand, trying to take advantage of the Right's weak position at this stage and having a genuine shot at the top job before the next election. Shows a lot of courage, but could seriously backfire. From what I understand the Right are trying to slowly build O'Brien up for the top job in time, but don't want to over-expose him too early.

It appears certain that the ALP will hold 24 seats and plus leaving Bright & Mitchell still in the doubtful category.

I notice also that in those 4 FFP seats mentioned, that it is mathematically impossible for the result to be affected even if 100% of FFP votes are preferenced to the Libs.

I wonder if the Libs will concede gracefully once it's clear they can't win, or will they be dragged kicking and screaming back into opposition like they did in 2002...

All indications are they will delusionally continue to claim they actually won despite all evidence to the contrary.

I don't think they are claiming the win, they just want the result set in stone.

Do you leave the field before the 3rd ump makes their decision if their is a slight chance it will go in your favour? no!

No.. but when the ball has been bowled, bouncing off your pads and slamming into middle stump leaving the bails on the ground, you just look like an idiot when you appeal to the 3rd umpire in the distant hope that the bowler might have overstepped the crease.

The sad thing is that's not even the most dubious excuse i've heard for their use ...

It is not meant to be an excuse - i was merely trying to point out that it negates any calls for a by-election on the basis that the final outcome was influenced.

I think a Labor leaning person would suggest that.

Whilst it is looking more and more unlikely that they will win (which they have stated numerous times) they are better off waiting, I note that Mr Rann has annouced the win yet either.

I'm pretty sure when the counting finishes we will get a formal ending to it, until then only the most rabid Labor fanatics would suggest either party is at fault.

Weatherill has lost to Foley as expected.

Perhaps he will be the new A-G. Will be interesting to see who takes the 10 porfolios from the 3 outgoing ministers..

The Family First affair at least rips any moral hoghground the ALP had left regarding dodgy documents.

Quite frankly I think there should be runoff elections in all seats where these were used on the principle that elections should be free and fair. The principle doesn't mean much if they're only free and fair to the extent that it effects the result.
