I've said it all along. I want the RAH to stay where it is. We have a fantastic education & research hub here between Adelaide Uni & UniSA, the IMVS & Hanson Institute and the RAH. Why change that?!?

I also can't stand Michael Atkinson, he is so out of touch it isn't funny. Fancy being more afraid of gamers than of bikers. Gamers aren't those stereotypical teenagers that hide in their parents' basements and become murderers. Most gamers are adults. We need a R18+ rating for video games. It's just common sense.

TBH I don't care where it is, as long as it's new. Our existing hospital in certain sections looks worse than what you would get in a 3rd well country.

For me the main issues are:

Infrastructure/Spending/Policies

1) Hospitals
I prefer RAH rebuild and save the prime river Torrens district for making our city more appealing to tourists. I do like the Liberals plan better. If a new hospital is needed why not something around the Western/Southern side or Keswick (merging with Ashford)? I DO NOT WANT the Marj.

2) Water
I don't believe Rann has gotten the results via the Murray-Darling system. Also believe Rann has only focused in 2 areas regarding water: MD Systsm and Desal plant. IMO desal plant should have been one of the final options. I think 1st should have been: state policy for mandatory rainwater tanks plummed into the homes (with rebates to help compensate). All these under-utilised roofs are potential water catchments. 2nd should be metrowide stormwater treatment and grey water re-use... ala Salisbury council and Mawson Lakes. I don't mind the idea of drinking stormwater (our current water comes from a muddy river system) as similar works are used in Europe etc... but this would be the a less preferred option equal with a desal plant.

3) Trust
I don't trust Rann at all. Whilst I don't give a crap about Michelle Challtelois and the supposed affair... I think where there is smoke there is fire. I think Rann is trying to "hide" it and think he should have just came out and admitted it immediately. Now it appears he is trying to cover things up, he appears manipulative and false. Whilst the actual affair is a non-event... his handling of it portreys him as untrustworthy. As for the Liberals, Isobel Redman does appear more trust worthy (as far as politicians go)... just seems like there is less media "spin" with her for the sake of popularity.

4) City Stadium
For so long the current government voiced no support for an inner city stadium. As soon as the Liberals showcased their proposal and it proved popular the Labour party all of sudden became interested... despite allocating funds for AAMI expansion and infrastructure to AAMI.

Cheers
Agree with that 100% and Im all for Redmonds new stadium/precint

But for the water policy - we dont get alot of storm water as we are the driest state in Australia so she is going to come up with something else to go with it.

What is her plans for hospital - RAH as it is , is well old, too small, run down, putrid, still is filled with espestos and there is no room to renovate........we need a new one PERIOD!

One thing that bothers me - I work at TAFE and athough Labor have fxxed it over by making it compete with Uni rather than be the stepping stone/affordable vocational training that it was and should be, the Libs ever since I can remember have wanted to get rid of it and replace it with 'super colleges' or privatise it making it unaffordable for future students and unbearable for employees and I have NFI as to what will the Libs do one they are in power now

How can I find out in that regard and what do I do as a voter - one poster said look at the issues that are important to me and go from there but my no.1 issue for me hasnt been mentioned

once again higher education not involving Uni/Apprenticips isnt a great priority for either party

Or why dont I just vote for an independed and be done with it

It's funny. I sorta trust Redmond, but I don't trust the Libs. I don't trust Rann but I trust the ALP.

Maybe I'll just vote Bob Briton.

They are both idiots, Rann is too arrogant and smug, I really dislike their negative campaign and liberals don't really have any policies that they are commiting too.

I may just void my vote

At 9pm on Saturday night with 63% of the vote (for the House of Assembly) counted, the ABC computers are calling an election win for the ALP with 24 seats called, expecting 25 by final distributions.

Max James has 12.5% of the vote in Port Adelaide as an independent candidate, but Kevin Foley looks to have the seat comfortably won despite a 13% swing against him.

we hope that this is the kick on the backside labor has needed for a while.....all they have been is complacent and a good wakeup call can easally fix that :)

Just want to say a big thanks to everyone who voted in the seat of Adelaide - the wicked witch can fly on her broomstick back to Kansas now

Dont hit the door on the way out JLo!!! :D

look i love the PAFC but Im actually starting to hate Adelaide as a city and SA as a state. Rann does **** all for the state and as soon as he starts upgrading AO and more so, start work on a pointless new hospital, I'm pissing off to Vic when I finish Uni (2 years)

love Port but can't stand living here, and I used to be such a proud South Aussie...

No one in Victoria would knowingly employ someone from South Australia. That's how backwards we are

ps. I voted Liberals :O (where's the thanks for getting rid of Vini :P )
greens #2 ;)

Why Port Brilliance.

Does a brand spanking new Hospital not excite you? Perhaps a new convention centre??? Think fresh car smell x a million.

Okay, Okay. Perhaps a drawing of redeveloped Adelaide Oval? It looks pretty. Ofcourse it wont get built because its only a plan, which has to be agreed on by about 100 self interested parties.

Shit no, lets not ****ing inspire, or try and change this dull little shithole that is Adelaide....

I just wanted a new riverside cas FFS. FML, I am gonna jump for Adelaides tallest building...

and most probably just break my ankles

lol at "J Lo"

pleased with the results... would much rather a world class hospital in our very own state than the stadium dream of some footy diehards

as nice as it would be, priorities are priorities

and yes, labor did need a kick in the arse

that's what we've become. Picking another hospital over a brand new stadium. Don't people in this state want something exciting? lost total confidence in humanity

for me it wasn't about people picking Hospital over stadium, it was the fact that Labor even came up with the stupid plan to put a hospital on the last developeable peice of land on North Terrace.

The Riverside plan was ****ing amazing, and it basically encompassed the land that is now going to be used for a low rise hospital. I emphasize the word low rise, because its taking up A-****ing-lot of land.

Its just depressing. What really is there to look forward to in this state, but particuarly this city? Trams, Hospitals, a Convention Centre & apparently a water feature in the torrens?

Exactly. Totally agree with the fact that they are putting a bloody hospital in perfect spot, where something else could be developed.

I hate people who hate people who bag the state. I used to always sick up for this state but we are a joke :thumbsd: Well, Rann is a joke

That's almost as dumb as his attempted ban on blogs and responses to the Advertiser stories on line (Adelaide Now) during the election period.

Proof of what you said Forza, it's from USA but we aren't much different here.

Game Boys

Sales of video game consoles and video game software are down this year as are sales of DVDs, none of which are supposed to happen in a recession. Hollywood thrived during the Great Depression, remember? And now the U.S. Centers for Disease Control drops a bomb on us that the average U.S. video game player is 35 years old, overweight, and somewhat depressed. This is news? Apparently it is, and looking behind these numbers helps make some sense of the economic picture.

.....

The $60+ billion domestic entertainment industry we thought was based on teenage boys is in trouble because it was actually based on middle-age men pretending to be teenage boys. And those middle-age men need to support themselves.

That’s what’s going on here: the guys stopped buying games so they could make their car payments, instead. It took an unprecedented recession — the worst in 70 years — to coax-out this effect but it is clear that if things get bad enough even Hollywood hurts.

With 67.2% voted, the libs on 41.4% of the vote to Labor 37.9%. Another election that further enforces my view that the British first past the post is better then preferences. :(

Preference voting is by far superior in my opinion. Regardless the Libs still had 51.5% of the two party preferred vote to 48.5% for Labor.

Labor will maintain government because the way the electorates are distributed, or Gerrymandering as has been mentioned before.

A morally bankrupt Premier who relies upon:
A depressed Treasurer to take care of the right.
An alcoholic to take care of the left.

60% of your GST dissappearing, who is building the new Hospital , Southern Freeway? Where is the money coming from? More loans? Smells like the MFP to me.

Surely its an act straight out of the Fringe, no wait it SA.

LOL, pure comedy.

Maybe it's just me, but looking through the Legislative Council results, it was amusing to see the 'Gamers 4 Croydon' outlast the 'Save the RAH' party in preference distributions and elimination from the vote.

LC results

ALP 4 (8)
Lib 4 (7)
Greens 1 (2)
Family First 1 (2)
Dignity for Disability 1 (1)

plus 2 Independents who weren't up for re-election.

David Winderlich, who ran as an independent after initially being selected to replace Sandra Kanck as a Democrat, missed out. The Libs also lost a spot.

I got news for you, if you think Melburnian's, Sydneysiders, Londoners, New Yorkers, Parisian's or Los Angelino's vote any differently you are in for a huge shock. People vote for shit like that, the vast majority of this State, NSW, Victoria or anywhere you go care very little about sport. If you had a 2 party race in any developed city in the world, 1 having a platform on building infrastucture, and 1 with a platform on building sport and entertainment centres, the second would get a) laughed at and b) decimated in any poll at any time. It will always be that way.

The fact that a sport stadium is even on the agenda come election time is bad enough given the overwhelming number of real issues we face. Issues that are worthy of much greater consideration even than another hospital.
