Delisted Marco Paparone (2012-2018)

IMO paps should have a run in the midfield.. Challenge the likes of bomtepelli etc ....

Welcome Duffill93 .

As he gets a bit stronger and continues to improve his contested work, it could happen! That said, he is an uncommonly good outside runner and I think we'll keep trying to give him space so he can use that as a weapon.

Congrats Michael.

Maybe they found his name a bit too...ethnic. And decided to anglicise it a bit to make it less offensive to people who are offended by these things.

Seriously though, Marco has just grown as a player this year I think, really beginning to show some potential and going to continue to improve for a while yet. There are glimpses in games now of his ability to have an impact. More good things to come from Paps!

Paps is my insanely early pick for breakout player next year as our ultimate utility.

Back/Mid/Forward he can fill in almost anywhere, with his aerobic capacity just keep using him to fill gaps. Still has plenty of areas to work on in disposal and strength but if he learns to play to his strengths and not try and to much think he will be a really useful multi-tool

Player Reviews: Part Five

Sharing his time between key position and running-half-back, West Australian Marco Paparone made a strong impression in 2015, where he functioned effectively (on account of his elite speed) as a link between defensive 50 and the midfield. The 20-year-old’s best game in 2015 was in Round 10 against GWS, where he finished with 25 disposals and 11 marks. This good form continued throughout much of the season, where he led the Lions’ rebound 50s (79), his disposal average climbed to 18.9 and his marks per game averaged 6.4. While there is still room for improvement for Paparone (he is occasionally caught out of possession and beaten in one-on-one contests against bigger-bodied opponents) the Lions are confident that, with experience, he will develop into one of the Club’s best defenders.

Tom Bell's Running Ability A Standout

Defender Marco Paparone is another player to have put in the hard yards this preseason, according to Black.

“Paparone has been showing really good skills.

"The young guys have been driving the training sessions without the senior guys there – it sets a good standard for when the older boys are back.”

Reserves Wrap - Sydney Swans - 01/04/16 (Shane Woewodin’s comments)

First game back for Paps after an extended lay-off with a hamstring injury. It was good to see him back on the park. He played as a third tall, running back for us. It was really hard in trying conditions to be able to generate any ball movement off our backline. Paps’ ability to get through the game, get some time under his belt and get some footy in his hands was really good. He had it 27 times, took 8 marks including 2 or 3 from opposition kicks. It was a pleasing return, not sure whether he’ll put his hand up for selection but it was good to see him back out on the park.

The longest drought: Your club's most goal-shy players
MARCO PAPARONE
Drought:
22 games
Last goal: Round three, 2015

Paparone started his career as a high half-forward and kicked 12 goals in his first 16 games. But with one of the best aerobic systems in the club, he was then shuffled to the wing to use his run and in more recent times into the backline, where the 194cm utility can play on either tall or small players. It wouldn't surprise to see Paparone moved to the wing again in the near future, opening the door for him to get back on the goalkickers' list.

Anyone know what's up with Paparone this week? Not listed in the reserves side and not on the injury list. Has h been given a week off to freshen up or is there something else going on?

Wounded Lions doing the hard yards

Progressing well after having hamstring surgery. His biggest thing is his lower body strength. We need to get him as strong as possible before he returns to running. He should return to running in a month and will build up to pre-season with the team.

Player Reviews: No. 21 - 25

Marco Paparone’s season was cut short by a persistent hamstring injury. His best game came in Round 13 where he had 18 disposals, 6 marks and four tackles. Paparone should play his 50th game in 2017.

Coach’s notes:

Marco Paparone only played four games for the season. He played 3 or 4 at NEAFL level, but the rest of the year was out with a persistent hamstring injury which cut his season short. He played mostly across half back, playing as a 3rd tall for us, occasionally playing on the wing. He used his run and carry ability to rebound from defensive 50 in the games that he played. Paparone is another who will be looking for a big pre-season to cement his spot across the back line in 2017.
