Toast Marcus Bontempelli - AFLCA Champion

SCARY SCOTT SCREAMS AGAIN!
Cats coach Chris Scott called the decision to award Marcus Bontempelli the AFLCA 'really, really, really, UNFAIR!'
Sooky Scott stamped his feet while whingeing about Paddy Dangerfield being disadvantaged because he doesn't have, 'long hair and a big nose.'
'Paddy just looks a bit pink and weird, you can easily miss him on the field. It helps because they seem to miss how often he shanks it, but it is just really, really, really UNFAIR!!'
It was reported at training that Paddy, Gaz, Joel, Tomahawk and Chris formed a circle of complaint where they each gestured wildly and complained about unfair treatment.
You'd think a Fremantle fan would appreciate the bigger picture that Scott is fighting for as you would be one of the clubs the most disadvantaged (remember 2015??) by the GF being locked into the MCG for the next 50 years. He called the decision a 'travesty' and he's the only coach who's putting any pressure on the AFL and calling them out for their lack of integrity and highlighting how unjust their decisions have been, especially to interstate clubs like yours. A team that finishes 1st shouldn't have to play at the 4th best teams home ground, and an interstate side shouldn't have to play a grand final at the MCG every single year just 'because'. You can call him a whinger if you want, but next time you're getting flogged in a grand final by a MCG tenant who did absolutely nothing to earn that home ground advantage, just have a think about how much of a fight YOUR club is putting up to make things fairer.

And well done Bont :thumbsu:

Absolute champion footballer. Dogs go into the finals the team to beat in my eyes. They can do it from 7th, they've done it before.

He has been sensational this year and if anyone watches his first quarter in the wet against port adelaide it was the best quarter of footy I've seen from a player.

Absolute ripping bloke too it's a privilege to watch players like this (cripps too)

Thanks for your intelligent and considered post Chris.
If we were to make another granny we'd happily play anywhere.
Shall we talk about how Geelong should have a Cost of Living discount? Much easier to keep players when house prices are significantly cheaper than an hour down the road.
Or, how if you played majority of your home games at a neutral venue you likely wouldnt have finished top 4?

I don't think a "change of guard" has happened yet or will happen next year, but Bont and Cripps are now definitely top 5 midfielders with Danger, Fyfe and Dusty.

Not sure why we are debating the awards, all of the MVP, AFLCA and Brownlow are prestigious awards. I wouldn't be surprised to see a different winner for each (year has been pretty even with the guns).

MVP seems to produce the best winner overall if you look at the body of work
Brownlow is the most prestigious (rightly or wrongly, just the way it is) and used to "rate" players down the track
AFLCA is voted by the coaches, who know the most about the game.

Congrats to Bont, will go down as a club champion and possible an all time great in 10 years.

Good on him, he was robbed of the Rising Star by that Champion Lewy Taylor??
I hope wins the Brownlow as well.

Chris Scott never mentioned Geelong's easy draw

The Catters played just 8 games against the Top 8 teams compared to Collingwood's 11

They finished 1 win ahead of the Pies

Collingwood 7-4 vs other top 8 teams
Geelong 5-3 vs other top 8 teams

You Geelong sooks make sick. Gifted top spot and still whinging about the "unfairness" of the AFL.

Still not good enough to get the rising star award...
That went to some guy from Brisbane who's about to be delisted.....
Because the Brisbane guy had a better season that year.

If you don't understand how the award is judged then don't comment on it

We will field the youngest team of the 8 finalists so we've made the pointy end of the season in what was essentially a development year.
In round 23 the Bulldogs fielded the youngest side out of any team.
Pretty handy position to be in considering our cap space as well, especially after missing out on Wingard and having Boyd & Picken retire.

This award is voted on by the coaches and is really the only one that matters.
I have never seen a more dominant Bulldogs player.

So you concede that any of the players from 1-8 will get an AA before the players ranked 9th and 10th?

Few players can exert their influence on a game as many ways as Bont. Has the ability to crash and bash inside, find space and time at traffic, make the perfect decision with the ball, deliver damaging, lace out kicks all over the field and take contested marks at both ends.

The inside/outside arsenal was on full display at the weekend, with 16 CPs, 10 tackles and 7 clearances rounded off by his goal on his non-preferred after juking to his left and faking out the defender and his pinpoint, daisy cutting passes to leading forwards (the 30-40m pass to English that was never more than 4 feet off the ground... be still my beating heart).

Stoked I get to watch this bloke in the red, white & blue every week and can’t believe what he’s been able to achieve already despite only just starting to hit his peak years.

Is the 22under22 team a thing?

What's a neutral ground? Alice Springs, Darwin Cairns and the like.
If Fremantle played the majority of their home games at a neutral venue they would cease to exist
