Ignoring comparisons to twatlight. Marcus is an outright fox.

This picture makes me happy

Very nice to see Marcus holding his own on the weekend. Looks stronger & more confident, can see some good things for him this year.

HAHAH! classic.

I was on the other side of the ground and didn't even see it.

I have an identical picture of tex taking a screamer on Aus day but chose to casually omit the third frame.

It's too soon to state that Davies will be a player, but he's the Terminator once he lays a tackle. Once he lays a tackle, they don't break free. Or get up. Davies killed a player (Collingwood I think?) with his run down and pile driving tackle in the middle of Etihad.

Marcus played a crazy good game against Box Hill on the weekend. Laid some ferocious tackles and didn't stop attacking all day. Really hoping he gets picked this weekend against GC!

Looks like Marcus is gonna struggle to get a game this year, which is a shame because I really like him.

Hopeully he keeps going hard with the Ants to keep the guys in the 1's on their toes.

Can anyone tell me if he's still at the club? Didn't see his name in any of the reports from the weekend, haven't heard his name mentioned at all for awhile.

Pies plucked at Park

Bullants Coach Darren Harris said after the match: “He (Davies) kept Dick to seven touches and had 20 himself, and that’s the sort of form that helped him play the last seven games for Carlton last year and play in a final”.

Best: Northern Bullants: Davies, McLean, Henderson, Bower, Kreuzer, McCorkel

If Davies can continue this form with the Bullants, then he should get another contract.

It's good to hear that Davies is doing well, as I had been starting to wonder what was going on with guys like him, Lucas and Kerr, as I haven't heard much about them lately. What was even better about that list of best players is that it also featured McLean, Henderson, Kreuzer and Bower, four guys who are established senior players who we are going to need to have healthy as we head towards the finals.

It's interesting reading through this thread and finding out that accountability was a weakness as a junior and his endurance was seen as a strength. I googled his draft camp results and sure enough he finished second in the beep test and top ten in the time trial.

From watching him play VFL, I thought he was the exact opposite of this. His accountability is something that I would consider to be one of his main strengths because he consistently takes the opposition's small forward out of the game. On the other hand i've always thought that he must have sub par aerobic capacity because he's always in a back pocket and doesn't seem to be in the midfield rotations.

So what does Marcus need to do in 2012?

He does the one percenters well and has a good body for a young kid. He's a decent mid size defender but doesn't get enough of the ball and is far from damaging when he gets it.

I get the feeling he does what is expected of him, but surely Boots and Andy Mac will challenge him this year and put his spot on our list in danger. Andy Mac is strong overhead with similar skills and can play up field like Waite and we've only got highlights packages to see of Boots so far.

I don't like criticising our own and maybe that rush of frustration from the Semi Final has left a scar, but I get the same feeling I got from Joey Anderson's last year with us.

I have very little confidence in Davies making an impact in 2012.
That's not to bag the guy, but I just see too many in front of him through pre-season training.
Ratten does like him for his discipline though and may yet find a way to use him, contrary to the game plan we've been working towards.

Bootsma is miles off taking Davies's spot. We're not a bottom team that will be gifting games to skinny kids for development purposes. I will be a happy man if Bower recaptures his 2009 form and takes the spot of Davies or Duigan. Doogs could be under the pump if he has second year blues. Nick's poor defensive efforts in one on one contests gave up more goals than Davies last year. People only remember the good, not the bad with Duigan's performances.

Ando wasn't as aggressive as Davies who runs hard and takes them on to link up.

Duigan's good far outweighs the negatives though. They've both been in the same side mostly so that's not a worry.

Davies just doesn't do enough good IMO. Has all the makings of a solid medium defender but hasn't shown anything that warrants belief that he'll improve. Most of the times I've seen him higher up the ground he's fumbled too much when on the link up and rushed his disposal or not hit targets.

I'm very open to being proven wrong though :p

Still one of the less sharp players at training, but not for lack of trying.
The standard is quite high right now and the weaker links really stand out.
Not that all of Davies' work is poor, but he just doesn't do things as cleanly as others vying for the same position.
Things can change though.

I guess Ratten must see something that we don't. ;)

Duigan has made just as many errors that are overlooked and glossed over. Davies is one of those defenders who keeps good players quiet without standing out. Still a "kid" entering his third season. Have a look at that old thread that had people willing to trade Russell for Jericho.

:o

Unfortunately Marcus suffered a hamstring injury against Geelong on Saturday night which will keep him out of action for a few weeks.

A shame really as he is evidently in the thoughts of the coaching staff, so he's clearly doing a fair bit right.

Much maligned is Marcus, but I certainly don't believe him to be playing anywhere nearly as poorly as some seem to be suggesting. We know he has deficiencies to his game but had it not been for injury, I thought he'd done enough to warrant senior selection for another week at least.

Faces a big year but has started well, no doubt - otherwise he wouldn't be in the senior side. Let's hope he doesn't drop his head after this latest setback and really works hard to not necessarily reclaim the spot in the seniors, but to keep his place on the list come year's end.

Another casualty was Marcus Davies, who suffered a grade 1 hamstring strain likely to sideline him for the next two matches.

Anyone else notice Davies missed out on a highlight video?
