Marcus Drum in 2011

Obviously had a horror run with injuries in his first year with us, but obviously the Club saw something there.
Has played AFL footy and from memory was a 1st Rd Draft Pick originally. What are people's thoughts on him being a best 22 player if fit?
I know he played VFL late in the season without impressing particularly, but that may be down to an interrupted/non-existent pre-season.

Pre season is the key. I think he had some bad luck with an eye injury which is a bit unusual. It is not often we trade players in so he must have something and being a first round draft pick he obviously has some talent. But a big pre seaosn is the key for him, if he can get that under his belt i hope he can give us something.

He was pick 10 in 2005, so he obviously showed something. At 6' 3 and 90kg he could become quite the player he if can get himself on the field with 20 20 vision. I think he was brought in to take Harley's position, but only time will tell.

I have had a detached retina - and they do it treat very seriously. In bed at hospital - will not even let you get up to take a piss !

However as far as I recall once given the all clear - no more issues. And if played late in the year - he must have recovered. So we should see him out on the park. Could have been the closest thing for long time we have had to a ready made player.

I think he's our Brett Peake. Freo dumped both him and Peake for a reason and the reason was shown in the Grand Final replay. I can't see him making much of an impact but I'd be happy to be proved wrong in a Varcoe/Bynres kinda way.

Never understood the Peake pick up by the Saints - can run but just not hard enough.

Don't know Drum but is a differently built player with a solid body and taller. As long as he goes hard - he could be ok. Obviously showed some talent in footy skills to be a top 10 dratee.

Drum was picked up because Wells wanted him back in 05 (apparently)

I think with a change of coach he'll get his chance next year if he's good enough. And fit.

He's good enough. He had wretched luck last year, with an injury in pre-season and then the detached retina very soon after returnng. ... a very serious injury.

IF he's fit and has a full pre-season, Drum will push hard for senior selection.

Yep, I rate this guy. I think, if fit and has a great pre-season, he can push easily for senior selection. This too may make guys like Mackie more accountable to how they play week in, week out.

Hope he has some luck this year.
