We already could due to the Smeldts and Brown injuries and being past round 11.

If we are wouldn't minf seeing Cowan or Bathie come up give Bathie a game to show him how much further he needs to go

Cowan already on the senior list.

Club has made pretty clear if a rookie is to be upgraded now it will be Simpkin, but I doubt they'll upgrade one at all.

Bathie is coming along well but it's still too early.

The biggest impact of Drum's retirement on the rookies is that given the weak draft they all now know they are a major chance of permanent promotion to the senior list at the end of the year if they play well in the VFL from here on in.

Damn my memory like a goldfish should have remembered that Cowan was on the senior list

Agree with you PO hopefully this will see a bit of a fire lit under some of the rookies and push them onto raising there games over the next few week

Sad to read where Marcus made public his plan to retire due to unrelenting injury problems. Absolutely understandable under the circumstances.

I hope he signs up with the VFL side and just takes it a bit easier, as Troy Selwood did. Maybe if he plays for a year or two with no pressure, he may a shot at a comeback.

I see it quite differently JB. I’d much prefer the twos to be used as a nursery for our next generation of senior players. Keeping an injury plagued 24yo there for a couple of years in the hope he may come good doesn’t seem to me to have much merit.

I feel for Marcus but I don’t reckon keeping him on as a list blocker is in our long term interests.
