I thought I heard he was a groomsman at an Eagles players wedding????
Dean Cox???
I remember something like that - or it may be a salty enhancement of a recollection.

I heard that too but I just assumed it was bullshit. If the AFL integrity unit weren't all over that then they may as well be painted on.

It was a momentum killer. As were Taberner's missed shots.

The difference is, mistakes are part of the game from players and, whilst umpires are human and mistakes can be made by them, through technology there are opportunities to ensure mistakes do not unnecessarily impact the game's narrative. Even if the technology dictates an unfavourable result, at least the process is used to minimise umpire error. Big issue that umpire arrogance is a factor is the technology not being consulted.

God forbid that we ever need to consult technology to call a mark. It’s pretty straight forward and is very rarely called blatantly wrong. In fact I cannot remember ever seeing a mark so obvious not called.

Sure. But the goal umpire call it one? Makes it very contentious. You'd prefer to let it go rather than definitively get it right?

I shuddered when I saw him going to the hub 😬

Even worse when he went on our plane. I thought for sure he would have felt more at home on the Eagles plane.

If it means stopping the game for minutes at a time to deliberate yes I would. The amount of simple goal line calls are bad enough let alone stopping the game to override a field umpires mistake. As I say, as inconsistent as they are, they very rarely get a mark call badly wrong.

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!!!!!
He’s a ****ing disgrace to the game. Where is the accountability when it comes to umpires.

I’m considering starting a Go Fund me page to pay the campaigner to retire and f@ck off. $10 from every Freo member should do it

Saw him recently interviewed on TV - sounded like he really gets off on publicity. I think umpires should be seen but not heard - not promoted as personalities.

Why does the media give oxygen to this little trumped up hospital orderly turd? (Oh that's right - the local media like him because he's a West Coast man).

Dear Mr Goyder,

You’re a passionate Freo man. You’ve seen Margetts consistently ream us for many years. You know the data on free kick differentials for WCE.

We’re pretty sure that you will have thought about the obvious structural problem in awarding fixtures to local umpires, despite the cost savings.

We’re disappointed that as head of the Commission you haven’t been able to address this very obvious real, or at the very least perceived, conflict of interest.

Leadership is required here to ensure the integrity of the competition.

Management report to you, so please arrange for them to address this.

That on its own would create an AFL legacy of the same standing as your business and commercial one.

Yours sincerely,

Freo members and supporters

Another team goes to Brisbane and gets slaughtered by the umpires.

It's approaching conspiracy.

The Brisbane players are disgraceful divers.

Sometimes I wonder if he deliberately makes these controversial calls just so he gets talked about. Straight out of the Goldspink playbook. Razor Ray learnt from him too.

Every league umpire I’ve met has had a massive ego and are super conceited.

Think about it.

It's a billion dollar sport and the biggest sport in the nation...........and THEY control it.

As much as I love this, there would also be a conflict of interest if Goyder was involved.....fudge it, address it to Gil!
