In what could only be described as chilling scenes, walkers and rowers have discovered body limbs in and around the banks of the Maribyrnong River. The victim has a distinctive devil tattoo which should help police identify the body. The victim is believed to be a white Caucasian.

How horrible would it be to find body parts whilst undergoing your daily exercise?
What sort of a psycho murders someone, severs the body and dumps it in a main river.

Sounds possibly gang related and a warning to not mess with us- I'd argue since the body parts were in plastic bags and no realistic attempt made to hide the body, that the psycho killer wanted it to be found.

Horrible stuff!

The most important thing in the initial reporting of this seemed to be that the parts were found near restaurant owned by a judge from Masterchef.

I run/walk along there five times a week.

It's going to be difficult pinpointing where the body was dumped because the Maribyrnong at that point (Moonee Ponds) is still a tidal river and thus, the flow reverses quite frequently.

By frequently you mean twice a day... Usually?

Apparently they have an ID for the body parts, Police not releasing details for a number of reasons. The tattoo on the arm was used as an ID but I'd be certain to say they are waiting for forensic evidence to confirm the cadaver's identity

Feel sorry for the bloke and loved ones.

But how do you end up in the river dismembered? What makes someone do that?
I always try to imagine the scene which leads to this situation,
Dealer ' just want to talk about th drug debt'
Druggie 'yeah i'll get the money tomoz dude, chill out ok'
Shot fired, chainsaw starts.

Three people have been charged with murdering a man whose severed body parts were found dumped in the Maribyrnong River last month.

The accused, all from North Melbourne, were arrested and charged with killing Brendan Bernard after the homicide squad investigated the mysterious death.

Con Spaliaras, 31, Mathew David Brennan, 36 and Edward Lionel Hill, 46, will remain behind bars overnight before facing the murder charges at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

No surprise that he was a heroin and ice dealer and addict himself. Not that that's a reason to get murdered.

Sounds like drug debts and some upset customers over tampering with his product for greater profitability.

Brendan Bernard looks to have been involved with some pretty shady characters and activity. It's a bad way to go but it the leaves the question to be asked - how stupid are the three murderers to dump a body in the Maribynong river and expect not to be found...

The way the body was disposed of makes me think they wanted it to be found. A warning to others?

Then again, they could have been in drug induced stupor at the time of the murder and incapable of thinking things through (or not committing murder).

3 charges with murder over a $100 drug debt. Victim was apparently a heroin and ice dealer and heroin user. Apparently he used to cut his ice with crushed electric light globes?

According to the Herald Sun.

Was in the bluestone college for a number of reasons years ago.
Didnt conduct a survey, but imagined not to many Rhodes Scholars behind the walls.

Gets quite shady in parts of the North Melbourne with the roming houses and the Salvos hostel.

Anyone remember the indigenous guy who used to walk around the CBD kind of waving his arms above his head and shouting "SCUUSE ME! CAN I HAVE FIVE DOLLARS!"

I saw him one Saturday afternoon walk up to a bloke right on the street near the Salvos hostel and give the dude money. The bloke then puled out a syringe and gave the indigenous bloke an injection.

Right on the street, broad daylight. Horrific stuff.
