Seriously though, he is looking much bigger than previous years. His progression is VERY important to our team
I can see what a Carlton supporter was referring to when he mentioned that Justin Cordy rates Austin as an athlete and a potential power player.

Austin is a fair size for a 20 year old.

That neck belongs on a rugby player...

How good are the facilities?

Re: 21. Mark Austin

Where has austin gone?

Is he injuired?? Have forgotten about him over the preseason

Re: 21. Mark Austin

^^^^Per the above I have the same question, I seem to recall possible OP but any mail on Aussie and when he might be available would be appreciated.

Cheers

Re: 21. Mark Austin

I hope he starts getting the runs on the board soon. This is his 4th season but I'm pretty certain he will get a 5th year as his only 21 and has good size.I think at 22 next year he have to start doing something. I don't want him ending up like Jake Edwards who previously equaled him in 4 years at the club and taken about the same pick. The only difference was Austin being younger when recruited.

Re: 21. Mark Austin

I think BlueDimension who perhaps knows Aussie said that he didn't injure himself playing cricket. The emergance of Walker at HB has made it VERY difficult to get into the back six of

Armfiel, Jamison, Joseph
Walker, Bower, Russell

21. Mark Austin

From what i hear he's struggling in the 2nds..
Hasn't had a pre-season.

Even experienced campaigners in Scotland and Carrazzo had a poor 2009 after interrupted pre-seasons.
Not a good sign.
For your dreamteam? ;) :)

Austin is just four months older than Robinson who is a second year player.

Austin will spend seven years on our list and peak at 28 like Podsiadly.

:thumbsu:

BrizzyBlue claims that Austin is about to re-sign.

Re: 21. Mark Austin

There's no doubting he had no preseason - refer to my second point for that.

It's not a good sign for the people who think he is in our best 22...

Don't know him personally zee, but know somebody who is friends with him. His injury didn't come from a cricket incident.

Either way, I could see him developing into a very fine CHB in future. Having Bower as the third tall and Walker being able to play on a variety of types will be a luxury.

In future, perhaps even going into next year, I could see our backline looking something like:

Armfield, Jamison, Bower
Walker, Austin, Russell

I would love to see this and hope it happens. For mine this would be our best backline with a good mix of good paced talls and creative runners.

I know Aussie hasn't really proved alot but from games played thus far believe he has alot of upside and if we don't see much of him this year no worries as long as he gets a full pre-season and is ready to go come nab 1.

Where does that leave Joseph though. Definitely Best 22 in my mind, but he does look up aginst it to be in that back 6. Maybe midfield/tagger?

Injured like Hampson and Grigg.
Rated by good VFL watchers and judges as a potential player for a position on either flank.
Just 21.
Rinse and repeat for the next time you ask this question.

Re: 21. Mark Austin

This bloke needs to hold down CHB next year, i hope he has a big pre-season and injury free. We need him fit and firering!

Re: 21. Mark Austin

Mark Austin from the glenelg tigers has played a few league games this year. Missed out on the under 18 champs becuase of a broken wrist. Plays centre half back, is a real athlete with sub 12 second 100M time and stands at 194cm.
Is Austin that quick over 100 metres?

Austin recorded a three second 20 metre sprint and a 25.09 second 30 metre repeat sprint at draft camp.

Yet I'm not sure if he's that fast.

A year younger than Bower, yet more physically suited to CHB with his size.

This year's training shots and reports suggests that he has the legspeed, skill, size and core strength to hold up CHB. Especially if we improve our accountability and zone off more to give them a chop out ala Maxwell and Harley.

Roughly three months older than Kreuzer in spite of them being drafted in different years. Still has time on his size, but would need to play around ten games to get another contract. I feel there's more to like about Austin than there was with Livingston, Hartlett and Edwards. If Austin lives up to the talent that saw him drafted, it would really give our 2010 talls time to develop.

Frankly, I wouldn't mind trialing him as a forward in 2011 if Watson steps up next year.

Mark Austin
The million dollar question with Mark is 'will he ever get continuity in his football?' He's got great size, great competitive spirit and he's quick, so hopefully all his durability issues are behind him. We still think he can occupy a key defensive role.
