Was impressed with his running and enthusiasm. Would like to see him in there the rest of the year but who is going to give way for Bower?

Perhaps Hartlett out, Waite to CHF. The Crows don't have any ideal matchup for Waite now anyway.

the kid goes in for the hard ball, noticed a couple of times in the 2nd half that his despiration helped the team out a lot.

needs to get some smaller shorts, seems to be wearing Lance's from last year..........................just keep improving and go into a solid pre-season knowing he can make the grade

I like the kid I think he need to play more games at least he has a dip and it was interesting to see him in the forward line on Sunday. Look at what confidence can do for a kid perfect example is Grigg. Had a decent game against the Swans and on Sunday had a better game improving every week.

Quite impressed with Aussie's game yesterday.

Did his role down back quite well and showed he is defensively pretty sound. A few errors here and there, but it's only his 3rd game and he will no doubt learn from his mistakes.

What I was even more impressed with is the fact he showed some toe on the rebound. I thought he would solely be a shut down player in the defensive half but on a few occassions showed that he is willing to run with the ball. His efforts when up forward were also impressive.

Aussie looks to be one of those players, similar to Bower and Grigg, that thrive on senior football and gradually improve with each game in the senior side. Considering Ratten's comments about giving the kids a go and that he's going to let Aussie and Harts show us what they've got in the seniors, he'll no doubt keep his spot, and it wouldn't surprise me to see Aussie play out the year for the Blues.

Great to hear.

Have liked the look of him, and good to see he went O.K. up forward as well.

I think either Aussie or Waite will go to CHF next year if Harts continues to struggle.

Ideally next year I would love to see Waite used in a Richo role.

Some of his running & link play against doggies was awesome.

Imagine the matchup headaches he could cause

I have always firmly believed that as good as Waite is cutting off passes and creating run out of defence, he is a natural forward and genuine matchwinner when played in the forward line.

After yesterday's performance I'm starting to waver though.

He was absolutely brilliant hunting the ball in the back half, taking the game on and creating thrusts forward.

Previously I had believed that Walker may be able to replace him in the back half to free Waite up to become a matchwinner in the forward line, but after yesterday's performance, I don't think anyone could do what Waite is doing for us in the backline :thumbsu:

Lets remember he is relatively new in this role.

He is going to take a year or so to have the skill set to know when to attack and when to defend.

He is getting much better, but with the seeming abundance of talent down back (did I just type that???) one of these guys will go forward IMO.

Waite was more than just another 'talent' in our backline yesterday, he was an absolute freak!!

The way he patrolled the defensive half of the ground hunting the ball, they way he scooped loose balls up off the ground at full speed, breaking lines with his run, zig-zagging around opposition at pace, either resulting in him drilling it lace out to our forwards, or eventually getting caught by a gang tackle, but always keeping the arms free and punching out a 30m handball to advantage just before he got driven into the ground.

I'm a big Waite fan, but yesterday he took his game to a new level :thumbsu:

How good was Austin's spoil on a long kick to Minson in the first quarter when the Bulldog had front position?

That spoil was huge and clean.

Austin then attacked the front of the pack with another good spoil.

He was then confident enough to give a don't argue to Boyd when he spun out of trouble and handballed to Gibbs.

Yet he's only 19.

We can leave Austin at CHB if we have a good match up and play the athletic Waite or Bower as a sweeper across HB.

I remember watching he and Grigg running around in defence vs Port and Hawks in the NAB cup this year thinking.........these guys have got a long way to go to be league footballers.
Seemed to get in each others way, lacked confidence etc etc.

Both guys played a pivotal role on the weekend in stopping the Doggies from scoring.
Aussie's disposal looks very composed and he seems to have good hands. Looked good when he went to CHF in the last as well, with some great 2nd and 3rd efforts.

The next month could really be the making of him as a player.:thumbsu:

I watched the first qtr and a half last night (had previously only watched the second half since returning from the game) and it seemed as though Ozzie had the job on Brad Johnson.

If he did play on him for most of the game his 10 disposals 2 marks and 2 tackles against Johnson's 16 disposals, 6 marks and 3 goals is a very impressive effort on such a champion for a third gamer :thumbsu:

I really liked his game as well. He looked like he belonged out there. Sure he's making the occasional stuff up, but he was taking the game on, and playing in a positive manner. His delivery by foot into the forwardline was pretty good. I think having a more stable and cohesive defensive unit, helps new players like Austin make the transition to footy at this level. :)

Waite was a brick wall in the first quarter yesterday. He bounds around the place like a demented orangutan on ice.
The demented orangutan and the startled emu will frighten opposition forward lines for years to come. :thumbsu:

Jarrad's working on a revolutionary new 'last line of defence' technique
