So good to see Austin in the side. A crucial player we need to develop for a Key position in the backline.

The pieces of the puzzle are coming together....
Couldn't help but put forth my preferred starting 22.

Armfield Jamison Thornton
Bower Austin Walker

Scotland Murphy Simpson

Waite Hartlett Gibbs
Fisher Fevola Betts

Hampson Judd Stevens

INT:Bentick, Browne, Kreuzer, Carazzo

Another gun HFF with sublime skills would just about complete the puzzel in terms of personel needed for our next premeirship assualt.

And of course our illuminating concerns of CHF if Hartlett goes down again...

Then I reckon all we need is just more quality depth players in the ruck and midfield and the side is REALLY looking good for #17:thumbsu:

Nice team :) another gun HFF with sublime skills perhaps Houlihan? reacon he will be a very good player in a good team.

I have no idea but Domi knows ...... <groan>

That's just shocking, ODN. It was a smaller, crappier made, hand-held version of this thing.

If Austin can stand up at CHB a shitload of small, plastic square things will tumble into place for us. You know that old game, the one where you slide...............you know the one ffs............
Never heard of Square Up.

Connect Four >>>>>>>>>>>> Square Up.

Who was the man who said we should be unhappy with Austin's development? :)

Looks very very promising :thumbsu:

did OK today, positioned himself well, looked a little nervous at times but thats expected, laid some very important tackles.

probably the only mistake he made was that dropped chest mark which resulted in a goal, but other than that, im very happy for/with him. :)

i hope the MC give him games ahead of Duds like Russell.

Geez, I was disappointed with that. Crucial mistake. Still he looked the goods overall.

Yeah I liked what he did today he is just a kid and he will make mistakes but he showed plenty today. Hope they keep him in until the end of the season, give him a chance to get confidence and experience.

Russell dropped a similar mark in our forward 50, which was rushed down the other end by the Swans, who kicked a goal. Both Austin & Russell tried to mark on the chest, although hitting the ball at an angle. I hope Ratts includes these dropped marks in their review videos & then gives them a lesson on marking the ball with your hands in front of the body in these circumstances. Costly errors in a 2 point ball-game.

Difference was that Austin didnt shit himself when going for the ball. Was right in front of the Russell incident and he definitely braced himself for impact and therefore dropped a soda of a mark.

I was at the other end but it had a whiff of footsteps about it. Might have marked and goaled. Right.

Probably not hurting BG's game having his old Glenelg mate in the 22 - and vice versa I'm guessing. :thumbsu:
Good theory ... although Gibbsy has been in great form the past month or so.

I wonder if the same theory goes for two old West Adelaide boys playing together with Russell and Hartlett?

Russell's dropped mark was the turning point of the game.

Geez some people talk some crap!!!

Thought Austin looked ok and is a decent sized back. The only downer for the day was his dropped mark, but these things happen.

I think they should play him until Bower is back and then with another preseason under his belt he could be pushing for a bit more game time.

Agreed. I was so disappointed after looking reasonable all game. One positive about the incident though, was that he wasn't scared to attack the ball or leave his man.

Height looks good, needs a few more kilos though.

Happy with his progress - was always going to be a development player. He's young and raw and is going to make mistakes but he looks to have the right fundamentals. Will next year compliment Jamison down back i would imagine, no fancy flair from either of them just good, hard solid defenders.

My man.

Showed some good signs which is all you want to see in a young player playing his third game.

Austin didn't pull out when he has to go.

He's fairly mobile if you saw him streaming through the middle like Bower and linking up with a handball.

Looked promising when he was thrown forward in the second half with his second efforts.

We suddenly have a promising, athletic and mobile spine with Jamison, Austin, Bower, Thornton, Setanta and Waite.

I agree - go back and watch the game. We had complete momentum until that point - Sydney gained the initiative after that turnover. Not saying it was Russel's fault for losing the game at all, just saying it was one of those errors which we ultimately paid a price for.

Anyway, very impressed with Austin's game today. Composed and relaxed under pressure. Will be a player. He was on Gia most of the night if i remember correctly?

Played on Mitch Hahn for a while, and played well. Only made the one crucial mistake: the ball was kicked to a pack situation in the square, Aussie ran to the front of the contest, Hahn read the ball was travelling further, went to the back of the pack an ran on to the spilt ball to kick a goal on the line.

Aussie will learn, and will be a good player for us, i just hope he continues to develop and improve as the likes of Bower, Armfield etc are still to come into that defence.
