The comments he is a dud and we need someone better are all well and good but the reality is we are a team that won 3.5 games and finished stone cold last, could not even beat a team that tanked the last 11 weeks, we are not going to be able to attract a top notch ruckman like Wood without having to give up a lot to get him. Blake while not a great possessor of the ball might be the type of ruckman we need that can direct the ball so that it favours Foley, Tuck, Coughlan and co instead of them trying to shark the hitout from the opposition. Blake is at least a proven ruckman. What other option do we really have available, an untried Meeson, an older Hudson or trade away a hefty price to try and get Wood? If Blake costs us a PSD pick then I'm happy with that.

Totally with ya on this one RT! A young guy that played all 22 games wasn't it....at the side the finished on top of the ladder...if he can be picked up in the PSD FFS, with our current ruck stocks, and the Simmo situation, take him! If he is genuinely pissed at the Cats, then he will want to go to the PSD.

Then Graham can do another year at Coburg and play a few AFL games as part of his development. Wood, and someone wanting a ruckman that can be another Cox, just aren't going to turn up in the PSD. Getting him in the PSD, with Simmo, Patto and Graham, means all our picks can then go to addressing other areas of the ground. Would be a good pick up (as unco as he seems) IMO! We can get Richo to give him kick coaching:D

Pettifier and White.

Fair call. I'd be happy to move Petts on too. Not sure how the Lions rate him though....or be interested in White at all. More likely to be a player and 1 pick IMO. Pets was a high draft pick and is hitting his peak, Wood was taken at 12 wasn't he?

Many would argue we'd be giving up too much with that deal. My point was though, Blake in the PSD is a free pick up. So considering our current ruck stocks, take him as he is a proven start up, and we still have Graham as a project, and keep picks, and in your offer, Pets, for now. We could even take a late pick giant as another project...and delist White next year, cause i don't think he is going to make it!

Round 22 this year Brisbane vs Geelong at Gabba:
Blake had 14 possies 5 marks 34 hitouts basically rucking against Wood who had 9 possies 4 marks 12 hitouts.

To pick up a ruckman, which we desperately need, who was good enough to keep his spot in the Cats side while they won 13 straight games for a PSD pick for me is good enough. We don't have to sell off any of our first 3 picks or trade away any of our young players. All the talk is about us breeding our own yet it seems some want to trade them off when a kid with a little bit of POTENTIAL. If Wood was a AA ruckman then fair enough but he aint, in fact he is IMO no better than Blake in the wash up.

Wood was taken at pick 18 in the same year we too Patto at 16. Obviously there was a reason we over looked him in that draft and a reason why we are over looking him at the moment and for me that is the cost it would take to land him.

Pettifer and White if not Pettifer and Pick 19 fair for everyone not proven at Lions Yet!

Blake heading to Tigers. Get used to it. May even be the first trade announced.

Mehhhh
Although I don't doubt that we will end up with him, I'm just wondering why we would trade for him when we can pick him up in December for free.

We are just one of a bunch of clubs after a ruckman (Crows, Dogs, Blues, Pies and even Saints given that you wouldn't back Gardiner ever to run out again), so if we don't trade for one then the only ones left come PSD may well have names rhyming with Mark Porter.

Not judging it, or even suggesting it, just reporting what a hitherto faultless source from the Cats has just advised me by SMS. And no, I don't know what we will pay for him.

Makes a change from us waiting until Friday though I must say

WE HAVE TO GET OUR OWN. I am sick and tired with other teams' duds. If we do a trade it has to be for Cameron Wood for pick 19!!

how is Mark Blake a dud? he played 22 games with the top side including a preliminary final.

Read the post as a Geelong visitor in thread has said. I reckon if he should have played the GF but he did not. Does that tell you something? What did chrisjie also said he was a dud. It is an opinion and we have been in the quick fix before and I reckon do it right with kids.

Geelong have said that they won't trade Blake. Therefore, if Blake really wants to leave the club he would have to come through the PSD, meaning we would nab him with pick 1
Considering that we would pick a ruckman anyway with Pick 18 or 19 I would offer Pick 19 for Blake, maybe add Krakouer in there, no use in using Pick 18/9 on a ruckman if he may never develop or have to wait another 2-3 years, get someone who already knows how to ruck, and it wouldn't spell the end of Patto, he could be the second ruck and we could use Simmo more forward than anything, thus relieving Polak to play as a perminant CHB.

WE HAVE TO GET OUR OWN, or get Cam Wood.

CONTRADICTION!!!

Wood has shown nothing more than Blake in saying he will be a good ruckman, Wood was dropped just weeks after he won a Rising Star Nomination, and it was a pathetic Nomination too, Luenburger ended up replacing him in the side and he wasn't expected to do anything for another year or so.

Compare their stats, Blake is a mere 1 and a half years older than him:
http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?tid1=20&pid1=1501&tid2=10&pid2=1358

Blake also had 10+ disposals 12 out of his 22 games this year, Wood played 8 games and failed to reach double digits in disposals.

I can't believe the anti-blake attitudes of most of you guys.

As it stands we have ONE AND ONLY ONE RUCKMEN: Troy Simmonds, and he will be well and truely underdone

From there we have:
- Pattison a 197cm ruckman who is good around the ground and is a VERY good second ruckman but is not a first. He should be developed into a part time foward in this preseason

- Graham, a tap ruckman who is still very raw and will struggle to play senior footy in 08

- Polak a 194cm CHB/CHF, who does little more then contest in the ruck

What I mean is we get kids that can ruck. If we are to trade for a player I would prefer Wood.

OK..great...then you would agree he is hardly a 'quick fix' then?

And I think most of us weren't saying he was a trade like Wood would be, but a pick up in the PSD. Mind you, the Cats will no doubt be asking around, so the PSD would seem unlikely, and then your Wood Vs Blake arguement comes into play.

Does anyone else hear remember how hard we chased Rod Blake about 30 years ago?

History repeating itself, although this time around around it's them that are the current power club.
