so are the fanboys

extremely defensive game plan playing at home against North who move the ball fairly slowly

Ben Brown has little impact against a team defense but because Blicavs was manning him it was his great defensive work.

Lets see how he goes at the MCG cos last time against the bombers he was horrific in defense

Its doesn't hurt to give credit where due ... He has and is playing the role well. The MCG is a valid point.. and Brown is a different opponent than a Riewoldt for example.

For me , as it has been for at a season and a half.. form thru the year is always tempered , always balanced against ..what will happen when it really counts. Lonergan got beaten on occasions thru his career but he really made his rep in big games V Buddy , in that GF V the Pies etc. I was thinking yesterday before the game, listening to radio chatter that it was a big test for both..but really i was thinking that no matter the result .. credit for a Geelong win would be a ."yeah but". The game was setup for a if we win its at Geelong , if it was a loss ..North are real.

Well to be fair Blitz kept the Coleman leader goalless... one could not expect much more in this game. Next week is another game..but so far ..tick imo.

I'm picking 2018 already. Never injured (scratches head- no splinters), does all the coach asks of him week after week, we are very fortunate to have such a mobile big gun.

I think CE said it best ... beating the handicapper to get someone like him and Henry from athletics

Talking about finals is meaningless at this point. He hasn’t played any finals in this role. Just enjoy and give credit for what he is doing now.

If you can’t credit Blicavs for yesterday’s performance you have your head up your arse.
Succulent and on point...Brown is the leading goal kicker in the Coleman race

Gee Blitz did better than what I expected on Brown, he deserves some credit for the hard work in the defence this year.

Id disagree with that ..all the games , everyone plays is prep for finals. Trying to find what will work , whats our best chance of working in Sept ..so next week is a good check on that. Form v possible finals opponent has to be relative.

What has been great to see ..I feel our D as a group have come a long way since that game where Roughhead tore us a new one..with ZG next to him.
One can see that they are melding. I guess id ask.. if you do not like Blitz in the role just who is going to do a better at the role now? In a matter of a few weeks .. he has made Henderson and Taylors position questionable. Id not be replacing him with Henderson atm... how they handle getting both them back in the side will be a conundrum for the mc.

I disagree.

On this basis nothing is worth discussing or dissecting until finals.

It’s unknowable at this point what will work. And frankly a waste of time speculating.

Looking ahead, Hendo could play in Henry's spot, and Henry stays in as a winger. He's an excellent mark, and I see a bit of Mackie in him- those 2 years that Mackie played wing before he found his spot...Henry thought he was a HFF when you listen to his interview..
Whatever the case, I think we all agree Henry stays in.
Or, Hendo plays CHF.
Taylor, if his heel is ok, might take on Black's position. I feel really bad for Black, and listening to CS, I am not alone here. CS said he has been in our best 10 in the games he's played, thought he was a really top quality person, so I hold hope he has not lost his chance to stay with us for another contract.
Taylor may well retire this year (should we win a flag, I'd hope he does)
Blic stays as a FB- he is our best bet, and I don't mind saying I have been saying this for several seasons.
I love our defence, and it seems like it's more a case of not WHO, but HOW.

Regarding Blicavs at the MCG as a defender - didn't he spend a fair bit of time on Cox when we played Collingwood a month ago? This was the 4th time Cox has played against Geelong and in his previous 3 matches he has had returns of 2.0, 1.1 & 2.1 - so nothing too crazy, but Collingwood has won 2 of those 3 matches and he has managed to cause some issues for our defenders mainly because of his height. Last month when we played them, he was kept scoreless against us for the first time - so there is a scalp for Blicavs when playing on the MCG, against a player who has caused us trouble in the past.

As perfect as he is, occasionally he's going to lose against somebody.
I think if a person as yourself can only find fault once, and for roughly only 1 quarter of footy clearly defines how well he's going. And he actually did tightened up after early problems.
Even Stewart had a stinker that day, they all lost the plot especially midfield.
It was a seriously poor day by all the players standards.
Nah! Blicavs record speaks loudly enough now, apart from yourself of course!

Good stat. I don't personally care for him in the midfield since the 3rd man up ban because he doesn't win enough of it or is damaging. In defense it's a different situation. I think it highlights his massive endurance and ability to transition around the ground and follow even the more mobile forwards. It was only a few weeks ago where he ran over 16k which was most on the ground for 100% game time which is quite remarkable.

lets see how he goes in finals or at the MCG under pressure
I agree. And then when he performs in finals, let’s see how he goes in a GF. And then when he performs in a GF let’s see how he goes in the international rules series. And then when he performs in the international rules series let’s see how he goes in another arbitrary situation. Perhaps thenhe should be forced to make the Olympic team as a steeplechaser given he was unable to do this previously.

He is a serious underachiever is Blitz

I’d suspect that Harry and Hendo will be trialed in the forwards to give Hawkins a rest

Like everyone else I’m loathed to put them back in the backline in case they upset the dynamic.

Regarding Blicavs at the MCG as a defender - the one thing Blicavs can do is run all day. Bigger grounds would help him.
Exactly.

One of the reasons Brown copped a bath yesterday was because he was knackered from chasing Blitz. Imagine if Blitz had more space to work in?

Cynical - feel free to call me a fanboi
