the personal remarks about Doran are quite distasteful, i agree, but the fact is he was unpopular as a presenter because he was ill prepared and his research was extremely poor. he treated a lot of his callers with disdain and was plain rude to a lot of people who rang in during the quiz.
i understand he has a family and a mortgage, so do a lot of people that have been made redundant in the last 18 months, a lot of people that wouldn't have been earning the $100k or so that he was on. if he cherished his career a bit more then maybe he would've prepared better and from what we understand, treated some of his staff a little better.
god knows, enough of us have given him a fair go over the years but sadly he failed to move with the times.
fwiw, i wish him and his family the best and hope he finds work in a field more suited to him, unfortunately that field is not hosting a daytime sports radio show.

if you're in the public spotlight, or a card carrying member of the media, expect that not everyone is gonna like you. yes he has a wife and kids, but its irrelevant. i remember when frawley was being interviewed by sam N on MMM about a richmond player/former player or something, spud started off with "he's a great bloke, family man and loves....".... sam interjected with "yes we know he's a great bloke, but answer the question"
 
Take it from someone who works at SEN .
If Maxy had been even half decent in the way he acted towards others at this place he might have had a chance of being still around here in 2010.
Some of those who criticise his sporting knowledge have been pretty harsh but believe me when you get fellow employees walking into mgt at Swan st and asking them to get rid of a bloke then he only has himself to blame.
Sometimes in life and business you actually have to a be a bit smarter to survive ...and if you do have a mortgage and kids etc etc then you bloddy better be smart about the way you act.

besides loving the sound of his own voice and inexplicably calling himself a former hawthorn 'champ', harf is pretty tolerable. acceptable choice i guess

but they should move finey to afternoons and bring back beva!

off topic, but anyone remember a year or so ago, when finey was doing the quiz and some kids kept calling up and answering "bruce eva" to every question? never heard finey crack the shits as much as he did then, had a massive sad! so hilarious...

It wasn't as harmless as you make out, they actually answered one of the questions with his own wife's name, now I can understand the Beva taunts, but when you start bringing in family members of the presenter, it's crossing the line.

Those "hilarious" kids are the reason the evening quiz no longer exists, the little turds.

As for Mark Doran, he gave me a digital radio as a prize after I texted him and asked for one, so he's not all bad. :p
 
Harf Time will be a lot better than The Good Oil.

I remember that, the Bruce Eva bit was funny though. Stupid to mention his wife's name because that would just piss Finey off.
I loved the original 20 question quiz but the replacement quiz was rubbish.

Those knobs are the reason why the best quiz that existed on SEN, is no longer on SEN. I hope those little pricks get their own back one day.
 
ah, didn't realise they said his wife's name... that's poor form.

still, good riddance to the quiz. it might have been cool before people learnt to google.

I'll go along with that. I made the mistake of emailing him, and the response I got was akin to some 12 year old on Bay 13, it was hard to realise I was trying to discuss an issue with a representative of a sports radio station. People skills .. zero.

His attitude was so immature I turned him off and never listened to his program again. Not long after that I switched off SEN altogether. Based on my experience with him, he has deserved every kick in the guts he gets.

I can't remember now to be honest. I lost interest in the whole thing after Doran's imbicilic responses. I've been watching and contributing to this thread for some time because I knew an idiot like Doran would eventually pee in his own bath water. I live in hope that one day the media set standards of performance like every other industry has to.
 
I emailed Mark Doran in 2007 and he was nothing like most of you describe. I had recently moved to Japan and sustained a painful, undiagnosed neck injury and was in bloody agony. The problem was being in Japan and not being able to converse fluently with the doctors.

Out of desparation I emailed him, because he had a regular sports doctor on the show, and he was very helpful. He said he would try to get me on air with the doctor.

In the meantime I found an English speaking doctor, who diagnosed a cervical hernia and so I didn't require the on air consultation.

In my communication with Doran, he seemed genuinly concerned and willing to help.

That's just my personal anecode and experience with him, make of it what you will.
 
Thank **** Snoran is gone! You couldn't find a more boring, irritating presenter on air, anywhere.

He is a natural born muck racker so maybe a spot at the hun rummaging through bins and smelling jocks.

I don't mind Harford (unless he's with Richo who $hits me up the wall) but couldn't they give his show a generic name? "Harf Time" will be catchy for about a week before grating more than SENgine and Smokey f'ing Dawson's bollocks cricket updates.

It's time to bring back Afternoons and Coffeespoons as the theme song.

And on Mark Allen, I agree that he is appalling on anything other than golf. He lost all credibility after that Collingwood/Adelaide final when he admitted to walking out at quarter time and then tried to invent some rubbish story about how he went back but somehow ended up hugging the taxi driver at the final siren. Pure slop.

Patrick Smith should be forced headfirst into a blender.

Oh, and the receptionist is one of the scariest units in the world. She makes collecting a prize feel like going on trial for mass murder.

But SEN is still my favourite station :D
 
I agree about the receptionist. She is like one of those Soviet chicks on guard out in the Gulag.

I prefer Harf as the afternoon host, and by a fair margin.

Maxy's biggest problem in my opinion, was the fact he felt the need to remind everyone he was a "card carrying member" of the media.

He had pretensions of being a decent journalist, and whilst that's ok if you work in the appropriate news department, I don't want some ambulance chaser struggling to be a radio presenter while I'm out and about all day listening to the radio.

Daniel knows his role, has a certain laid back style, and prefers humour over sensationalism, all positives for mine.
