The Tigers don't have a "great young list", but it's great to see them take a long term approach for the first time, well, ever!! The first 7 picks in the draft will all be kids. Maybe five of them become regular players, and a couple never make it. Hopefully a couple become stars. With the impending retirements of Richo and Campbell, us tragic Tiger supporters need new heroes. Maybe Deledio and Roughead will be that for us. Whatever the case, a few old heads around the place to help the 7-8 new kids and Roach, Raines et al certainly won't hurt. Welcome to Tigerland Mark Graham..

Just out of curiosity tigers fans why would you draft a Mark Graham type player?

Graham's best was very average and he's past it now anyway. Was always solid i admit but you could pick up a player in the draft with more talent that could perform the role Graham does as well as, if not better than he could.

I think there would be at least 60 players in the draft that would be better than Mark Graham - and if not better then would eventually develop into a better player. Let Graham fade away into a life of retirement and golf shoes where he belongs.

To make Gasper look good perhaps?

Graham, has the runs on the board though, he was a steady defender for his career. It is not like picking up a player such as simon fletcher, adam houlihan, craig biddiscombe, ben marsh [shudders]..

Hopefully he can teach the defenders a few tricks

At times we may need some experince, i say go with graham, we need people that can play on the backline...we are assembling the best young talent aroudn since stiklda and you know what we are going to be a power again, we have tezza and king miller, we are going to bit,see you guys int eh grand final in 3 years

Well summed 'cairo tiger'...Your analysis is spot on

Graham is a very good get for us.

Our defence is crap. We have alot of good kids but we cannot expect 17 year olds to play 22 games.

Graham wasn't bad last year. He will be solid for us for 1 season, maybe two. He will be there untill the kids mature.

Great short term get.

Good stuff Richmond - Graham was one of the few guys at Glenferrie who actually put all his effort in.. pleasing result and will be more of a on-field coach for the youngsters..

Thank you at least one person who knows why we have him. TW even said that he is there to teach players like Moore and Archibald develop

are the Tigers going to be away for the PSD ??? Why draft Graham (who I rate as average AT BEST) in the National Draft ??? Wallace walks out on the Bulldogs but pulls a stunt like this ???

If we can get rid of Zantuck it gives us space on our list to select a kid left over from the National Draft.
If we do this it would also free up the first Rookie Draft pick for another kid. We'll probably pick up McKee for some depth in our ruck dept but we can use a 2nd round PSD pick on him regardless.

Just spoke to a friend of a friend of a friend  who knows Mark, and his response was,

"tell that dikweed he must be on some serious drugs.... WHY WOULD I WANT TO PLAY FOR RICHMOND!!!"

He suggested that he would rather take the 2 year offer from Northcote Park that was on the table. :p
Interesting Comment in hindsight!!!

We cant have both?

Our defence is rather poor...

Mark is a great pick up for a season, maybe 2 while our kids develop.

Leaving aside the merit of the selection, I don't see the difference between taking him with the last pick in the national draft or passing on that pick to leave a spot for him to be picked up in the PSD. The end result is exactly the same.
