one good game ? in like 4 years

sign him up then

The fact he's averaging more goals a game this year than Cloke this suggests it hasn't been just one good game.

Since Dawes has become best 22 he's played 44 games compared to Kosi's 38, but only kicked 60 goals compared to Kosi's 59. Possession's wise they're relatively even with Kosi taking more marks but Dawes winning more of the ball at ground level. Dawes has kicked 4 goals in a match just twice in his career (and never more than that) in that same time frame Kosi has done it 8 times Dawes has kicked 3 goals or more on 8 occasions again in the same time frame Kosi has done it 16 times.

Basically Dawes and Kosi are as identical stats wise as two KPF could be, the only difference is that Kosi is an infinitely better second ruckman than Dawes is and will ever be.

I have a question. If jolly did decide to retire at end of year, we would have to pay him last year of his contact.

Now my question is would we have to include this in out cap? i assume we would but what would happen if a player had to retire due to injury, like say Blake caracella. Would this also be included in cap as i think that is a little unfair. Anyone shed any light on this?

My whole point is if Jolly starts to massively decline, we give him the tap and get a jamar with his salary if we can do that

Sorry to intrude but I don't think you have to if it's due to injury.

IIRC when Matty Egan retired at the end of 09 he had a contract for 2010 and we were very tight for cap space then as you guys are now, and we didn't have to include his contract in next year's cap (otherwise we would have had to hold him on the list for another year). Obviously the afl would have rules to ensure that the player really is retiring due to injury and it's not a ruse, but if so you don't have to include it in your cap for that year.

The two parameters for us are that a ruck should not cost much in terms of cap or spots in this draft. By that I mean no more than our 3rd round pick or player swap and maybe 300k a year max.

Any idea of a young gun ruck is ruled out by the salary cost. I think Jamar would be a perfect stop gap until Witts comes on. I'd hate to see us use another early pick (1st or 2nd) on another ruck. We need to recruit low again so we can pick up some stars for future.

On Jolly retiring injured early, I'd be surprised if we still didn't have to wear it in the cap for his 4th year. It's just the luck of the draw. Otherwise every team would offer their guns 5 year deals without having to worry about injury.

Jamar, Kosi or Minson might suffice so long as it doesn't cost much, otherwise price too high.

^ We wouldn't be using picks. You'd expect that they would try to land one that is a free agent.

Is that the case with restricted and unrestricted? Presumably AFL picks up the compo for an unrestricted free agent and hands to losing club.

Dawes is 23 and has played 50 games, Kosi is 29 and has played 180. You can't compare the two of them. In fact it probably reflects poorly on Kosi because his numbers are similar to a 50 gamer who is still learning.

We don't have the money to get any of the guys mentioned unless Cloke leaves.

At the moment the ruck is moving towards more mobile jumping types, not bash and barge Jolly/Jamar types. Who knows what will happen in 3yrs.

I was responding to someone that claimed Kosi had done nothing for however long. Which IMO is wrong and was reflected in the numbers.

The best way to prove my point was to compare him to a player that at this stage last year many thought could have been anything but has stagnated despite still producing quality numbers.

I'll give you the tip Chris Dawes is no longer learning the game what we're seeing now is just about the finished product. This is his 6th season in the system and it's extremely rare for a player to find another level after that long.

I don't believe Kosi would the best option for our #1 ruck, I'd like him as the 2nd option who can play forward. To me, outside the West Coast freaks, Kreuzer and Petrie - Kosi would be the best 2ndruck/forward option around.

I don't subscribe to the theory that Jolly is finished either, so I'm hoping that by the time he is - Witts/Ceglar or someone else is ready for the #1 mantle.

However in the meantime, Kosi imo would be a good option in the Leigh Brown role and would be much more adequate as a permanent ruck than Cam Wood is on the occassions that Jolly is injured.

Where is the hate for Kosi? I ****ing hate him with a passion - more than Milne. No way is he walking onto the MCG wearing the black and white.

I'm assuming our list remains in tact actually.

A player like Warnock would take a pay cut for opportunities- see Luke Ball. At Carlton he is well behind Kreuzer and currently behind Hampson.

The lure of potentially being #1 at say Collingwood with Jolly close to the end would be very appealing- particularly if he wants game time. He would have to take less than he would get elsewhere but he would be given guaranteed opportunities. It's something to weigh up.

West may be a different proposition as he is virtually #1 at Geelong with Ottens retiring. He would be hard to get.

They may well take a pay cut but it would have to be an enourmous one to come to the Pies, unless we get rid/trade some players for picks or Cloke goes. Keeping the list in tact and adding any decent player now is a pipe dream.

We wouldn't be the only club chasing them and offering premiership success - the Hawks need a ruck too.

Can't work that one out either mate, I thought he was good ANZAC day.

He was great on ANZAC Day, but rarely got off the ground, a great rearguard effort. But since mid last year, he hasn't been able to get far off the ground.

The best case scenario would be if Jolly was fit, but I have serious doubts about that because I reckon he's almost going bone-on-bone. Plan A would definitely be for him to play out his contract next year in good form.

But if it looks as though he can't, we can't have two barren years waiting for Witts and Ceglar possibly to step up. Our list is too good right now to squander.

funny, I reckon Jolly's form when he's been on the field in 2012 has been far superior to anything Jamar has dished up this year.

He's been rubbish, and was rubbish last year too.

Got a fairly similar output, except Jamar averages @ 10 more hit-outs per game, despite being 2cm shorter.

And just to be clear, I'd prefer a fit Jolly to Jamar, I just have my doubts about how often Jolly can get on the park and how much he might concede in the centre square in terms of first advantage.

Jamar might be okay as a bargain basement stop-gap, but you wouldn't smash open the piggy-bank.

If we still want jamar, it won't be hard to persuade him to leave after watching Melbourne tonight. In saying that, he was pretty ordinary himself tonight.

watching him play, it seems he wants out of the titanic but not sure where he will go

I thought he was doing well in ruck contests and moves better than Jolly but Jolly could play better as forward than him.
