Mark Johnson must play in defense this week on Matera.
Johnson IMO is the best small defender in the league and Matera the highest scoring small forward in the comp.

I know our midfield may be lacking a bit of spark without Rama but I think it would be to dangerous to play him midfield as I don't believe we have anyone else to contain a quick small forward.

Thoughts.....

Agreed. I also thought it was dangerous playing him on the ball last week with two Burgoynes in the forward line.

what are the eagle's tall fowards like? if fletch comes back, maybe we can play bolton or d jaccobs up foward? have an extra small guy back to make sure we have numbers when the ball hits the floor.

WC has a very short forward line. Haynes, standing at 188cm, is our FF, and Jakovich is our CHF. Other than that we only have Sampi and Matera. Guys like Jones, Embley and Judd get rotated through there, they're all about 188-190cm tall.

If T.Gaspar comes in then Fletcher would probably take him. Otherwise I can see Fletcher playing in your forward line.

This is how they lined up last week

Sampi Haynes Matera
177 cm 188 cm 171 cm

Braun Jakovich Jones
174 cm 193 cm 187 cm

Not much chance of Wilson being recalled and I doubt if Fletcher will play.

if flectcher does play he may find it difficult playing on haynes. haynes played his best game last week against richmond and while he did play FF he spent a lot of time running up as far as the wing. not the ideal guy to play against when you are coming back from an injury.

I think Bolton might do well at HF myself. Didn't we do that in the EF last year with Lucas at CHB?

Yes Bolton started at HF & Lucas started down back and then went forward and won the game in the 3rd.

As of our training session yesterday:

Hird: trained fully and is right...now to work out where to play him;

Lloyd: trained fully and is right...a worry for the Eagles defensive match-ups;

Fletcher: 97% fit as of last night...will depend on training tomorrow, but, he looks a near certainity;

Mercuri: Recovered fine from the concussion;

Misiti: Took it easy, but, no worries.

Best news is for the long term: Ramanauskas trained fully for the first time since the lump surgery..won't play until the Geelong match.

I really hope both Matera and Wirrpunda pull up alright for the big game. We must go in near full strength to beat the Bombers. Chick though should be back in the side after missing last week so that's a positive if Matera and Punda dont play.

Did he play on him in 2001 when Matty kicked 10?

Yes he did, Lloyd also kicked 7 in our other match up that season,not sure if he played on him that day though.

The only day I remember loyd being extremely well held was that awful game in 99. And last years final dosen't really count as Lloyd got ko'd.

Lloyd's not a worry for us - Hunter will get him like he did last time.

Also news that Lynch might come into the side - could be picked up by Jacobs?
