Sorry if a post has already been dedicated to the possibility of picking mark up, but i am curious as to what others think of possibly picking him up via the psd? Todays Herald Sun article states he is in the best shape of his life and his recent beep test (15.2), 3.2 km time trial (10.53) and 20m sprint (2.89) results which are pretty damn impressive. He goes on to say he believes he has another 2 good years in him of afl. At 29 he isnt exactly young, however a lot of you seem keen on ben cousins who is the same age.
Personally i hope miller and co at least sit down and talk to him. Our back 6 seems to be finally settled for the short term, however if either of raines or newman push into the midfield next year there could be an opening for Johnson. Of all the options availablein the psd johnson seems the most attractive at present.

As much as I'd love to have a player of Johnson's experience, toughness and ability, he like Cousins is only a short term quick fix solution. We need to find the next Cousins and Johnson and have them become 10-12 year players. The fact of the matter is that the positions in the senior team these players take prevent a younger (e.g. Daniel Connors) player from gaining vital senior experience.

if conners is consistenly not up to it then a ben cousin is not preventing him from getting a game. thats the problem we dont have enough pressure put on the core group to play consistent football, because there is not enough talent on our list. the problem we have is we expect our 18 - 21 year olds to play key position, midfield roles 22 games a year. we must learn to nurse our young blokes with solid grounding thru coburg. not just play a couple of good games at coburg and promote them to senior level. jack riewoldt is perfect example. i can assure you ther is plenty of room for ben cousins at tigerland.

MJ is a deadset legend. Very sorry to see him go but I understand why the club made the decision.

Puts in 100% everytime. 2nd, 3rd, 4th efforts from him are common.
I can still picture plenty of times where he was 1 on 3 and still managed to hold the ball in the area against the odds. Can play in defense, midfield and up forward.

I hope someone gives him an opportunity. He will be excellent value for any team that picks him up.

Should've been given another year at Essendon. You guys have a very young team, as a forward-pocket I think he would do very well and your young kids would definately learn a lot from MJ

With the lack of quality in the PSD and the uncertainty around Cousins, he'd be worth a look at...

Put it this way, he's gotta give us more value that KK did!

Say NO to Mark Johnson. He'll be 29 by the time next season starts

Age is not always a barier , how old is Richo and he still can destroy teams on his day.
I actually think MJ would work nicely crumbing Richo, and i would prefer him going to the Tiges then the Pies or Hawks.

no thanks - would rather we took cousins on the gear - than MJ.

past his best, and his disposal has became sloppy - as has his speed.

Christ it is funny 29 year old Cousins on the gear can possibly play for another 3-4 years yet 29 year old Johnson who as far as any of us knows has never been on drugs is too old, too slow and not worth the risk. Me thinks too many people here have got caught up in the name that is Cousins rather than what he actually brings to the table.

i think thats because cousins is a much better player this year - and his form after coming out of rehab was extremely good - whereas johnson got delisted from a side who struggled for no other reason - but based on his form

cousins has also won a brownlow if IRC.

not a big fan of getting cousins - but if we are going to go down the "2nd hand 29 y.o car" road - i would prefer to take the ferrari with speeding problems than the VL commodore.

While a Ferrari would be nice if something major goes wrong it is damn expensive to replace/fix, where as like getting the VL Commodore like we did in Kingsley last year (who was a VB), it costs very little to run, doesn't cost as much to replace if something does go wrong and can still be just as effective at getting you where you eventually want to go.

Johnson played a few good seasons 4 or 5 years ago, but the game has passed him by. Better to pick the next undrafted kid mthan waste another pick like this.

I think he would end up being a benchwarmer, benchwarmer!

MJ would be a walk up start in your best 22. Having said that i dont think Richmond is a good fit for him. Richmond are young and rebuilding so they dont need to draft a player like MJ. It is not a good fit for both parties. He should and will go to a club like Port who are already strong. At Port he will add to there depth and help them push further much like Hardwick did for them.

If the Tiges are "rebuilding" I don't understand why the fascination with 30 yo players like Johnson and Cousins. Just doesn't make sense. :)

makes about as much sense as a carlton supporter constantly commentating of what richmond should do:rolleyes:

go back to your home on whore-island - parrot - dick wants a kiss

Impressive numbers indeed but he has always had questionable disposal and that will not change. That's the primary reason he's surplus to requirements at Windy Hill....not to Punt Road under any circumstances!
