Geez me too.... I was trying to remember if it was JJ or MJ that was the gum chewer cos it annoys the crap out of me.... bugger it being him.... :thumbsd:

My recollection is that Clement was traded because Damien Drum thought he was too slow for AFL footy. Drum has given that account in the media before. McPhee is twice as good a player as Crowley. What has Crowley achieved? Is he AA?

My recollection is that we needed to trade someone worthy of a top ten pick for Peter Bell.

McPhee is like Chad Fletcher, he had one good season.

Crowley hasn't made AA, but he was selected for IR series which shows that he is well regarded. While he did injure his knee playing the round-ball game, I think he is a bit over rated by Freo fans, and I think he should step up more. He is a fringe player who should force his way into being a regular top 22. He has skill, height, pace and agression, but does not have as consistant an impact as I would like to see him have.

I think the knee injury last year affected Crowley's fitness and form. This pre-season Crowley has been doing well. He came top 3 in the 3 Km time trial. I think Crowley will be poised to have a big season with us in 2008. :thumbsu:

I dont liek Johnson.

Doubt he is the mant he fix Freo's midfield.

Freo need quick guys in the midfield like kerr, pridis, braun.

Instead they inject an Essondon discard - what are they thinking at FREO hq? probably the worse signing this year mate no doubt.

Struggle street hey? You wouldn't be an average joe as well would ya?

Wasn't it pick 6, and they selected Dylan Smith, who we ended up with after he was delisted?

Pick 6 was originally Fremantle's first round pick which they used on Dylan Smith, pick 8 was Collingwoods pick which they traded to North Melbourne for Clement and Holland.

gotchya. Thanks for that. I wonder how much the club rated that years draft? It does amaze me how a top 10 pick can be so unsuccesful, yet they often are. I read that the averge number of games played by pick number 10 is 30.

Clubs are certainly putting more resources into recruiting so there should be less duds in the top ten going forward than there have been. To think just a couple of years ago the bulldogs didn't have anyone on the rookie list because they couldn't afford it. I'm sure they wouldn't have had much money to spend on recruiting either, the doggies probably had to base their assesment on the 3 games at the under 18's and some TAC Cup games making it very hard to gauge anyone from outside Victoria.

The draft age will probably continue to increase and rightly so which will make it easier too. Kepler Bradley is a perfect example, a young guy who clearly has some ability but hasn't been able to cement a spot at AFL level so is cut loose at 21.

havent read any of this thread but not sure what Harvey is up to drafting this bloke.

Out of all the 16 clubs yours is definitely the LAST to be able to criticize us about drafting de-listed players. Stu Dew? really? at least ours is actually fit and can play if selected round 1, your will need at least half a season to be able to run out a single game of footy. run along now, do not pass go, do not collect $200

so you agree with Harvey's decision?

Keplar has age on his side and could work for you, but Johnson is old and is a shit footballer, obviously there are ?'s over Dew's fitness but we know he can play. i have posted several times that i believe it was a bad decision to draft him but later conceeded that it might be worth a go if he can get himself fit.

i want to see freo do well, but i think this was a terrible decision.

Who ever said MJ couldn't play? he was B&F for Essendon in 2002 (may be wrong on year) so the guy can play. He lost a bit of fitness towards the end of his stint at the Bombers but that has now been rectified and will be futher rectified come round 1. On the question of do I agree with Harveys decision? Of course I do. he has got a 100% good record of drafting players from Essendon so far so why should this time be any different. One thing I really like about MJ is that he is a great kick, something we need as a team.

He was a decent footballer a few years back, but imo the direction in which you need to go wouldn't see MJ in the future plans.

For your guys sake i hope he does well.

Given that everyone outside of Freo seems to know what Freo needs more than either the club or it's supporters, maybe we could create a suggestions sub-forum for all non-Freo supporters to tell us that we don't need Mark Johnson, or that we should have appointed Sumich instead of Harvey or whatever else it is that is causing them sleepless nights. It would save us all from reading their dribble, yet still give them an outlet (and no doubt some amusement/argument for the Freo members of the board who wish to participate)

Yeah... we have one of those already... It's called the West Coast Board...
The WC Obsession will always continue.....:o

MJ was one of my favourite players for years. One of my fondsest memories is when he slam dunked a Hawks ruckman into the ground at the MCG about 5 years ago and crushed his shoulder and it instigated Dermie to go into the Hawks rooms at half time and tell them to go the knuckle on us hence the big brawl, Vandenberg 6 weeks, Brown 4 weeks etc.

Was suprised you guys took him but he can play forward line for 2 more years and is tough and a great bloke. He is past it is a defender (too slow) and cert not a midfielder anymore. Good luck MJ.

In Bradley, I hate to say it but you have a dud. He floats his kicks too high, his reactions are slow as treacle and he can't hit a target by hand or foot. OK contested mark though. Definitely a forward, not a backman's arseh*le. Not a ruckman either. VFL player.

I think the Dons are looking closely at 2 of your delistings (just to even things up!). Can you tell me if Ryley Dunn or Collard are any good?
