McVeigh would have been the ideal leader this year IMO if he had not been influenced by injuries.
Now however, i'd like to think we will become Captain eventually, but as Whomb has said, we are not desperate for leaders, and there are so many alternatives for Captaincy.

Infact, how do you guys feel about a co-captaincy? It seems to be the trend in quite a few clubs nowadays.

I'm not a massive fan to be honest. I like the whole; "This is my team" approach with the one captain. Sends the rest of the AFL a sign in which represents our club in a strong & passionate manner. The public can get mixed messages with what we stand for with multiple captains, and which attributes our club excell at.
I personally think the captaincy is between McVeigh & Watson. McVeigh before getting rubbed out was a clear favourite IMO, and still has that nose in front at the present time. Noted for his aggression, passion, leadership & football smarts out on the field. I think Watson lacks that aggressive factor which McVeigh has, but it could influence the club in a positive fashion and make us look that little more professional & a more mature bunch. Either way out of McVeigh, Watson or Hille; I'm sure each of those candidates would lead the EFC in the right direction.

Hmm, i'd say it was because of his injuries. I highly doubt, nor want to believe :p That Suspensions play a part in ones chances for captaincy. (Bar players like Mooney and B.Hall who frequent the tribunal)

Had it not been for Hilles knee injury, I believe he would have been a chance to become the captain next year also.

I'd like to believe that as well. But getting rubbed out as captain would mean Essendon's reputation in the media would go down, and that would slowly but surely influence the public's view on the EFC.

I see it as between Watson and Welsh, which is great; it shows we're not a Collingwood or Carlton pre-Judd type club, desperate for leaders.

Welsh is definately a smokey.

You would say McVeigh has put a line through his name by missing this weeks crucial game.

Watson certainly should and is the warm favourite.

Welsh and possibly Winderlich are the 2 smokeys. Both put their all in week in week out and have shown dedication to the club. However Watson is probably the one and wouldn't mind having the aforementioned as his deputys.
