Zach Merrett is the one who could most closely resemble Mercs of our current crop, methinks. A left-footed version.

Not easy, but would hope in 10 years we found someone of his ilk. Perhaps Zerrett will be that guy. Gun HFF who can play midfield time. You say that like it's an easy thing

How many once in a generation players are playing now in the AFL?He was a once in a generation type player. For the reasons being discussed on page 1 he never reached the level of consistent output of Hird. That is the sort of quality you're talking about replicating.

Why shouldn't we expect quality? Or are you happy with the last 10 years of shit?
We have now. His name is Heppell. You don't ask why we haven't replaced Hird.
Also, we don't nec. need a Mercuri clone. Just asking for a silky skilled player. Reckon Zerrett has those attributes. You don't ask why we haven't replaced Hird.
Cool. It's an unfortunate reality that, during the season, with every week there are likely to be several new threads and thus, good stuff does get lost.Yep! Would be much neater then how it currently is!
HF: Mercuri Lucas Hird
FF Bewick Lloyd Long
Pretty handy forward line with Carracella, Rioli, Moorcroft and Alessio also in the team. Ridiculous actually.
