Not easy, but would hope in 10 years we found someone of his ilk. Perhaps Zerrett will be that guy. Gun HFF who can play midfield time.

He was a once in a generation type player. For the reasons being discussed on page 1 he never reached the level of consistent output of Hird. That is the sort of quality you're talking about replicating.

How many once in a generation players are playing now in the AFL?

Why shouldn't we expect quality? Or are you happy with the last 10 years of shit?

Kakkle, as the OP- are you happy, once this has slipped off the front page of the Essendon main board, for it to be transferred to the History sub-forum? Means it would get less lost among the rubble.

Yep! Would be much neater then how it currently is!

Cool. It's an unfortunate reality that, during the season, with every week there are likely to be several new threads and thus, good stuff does get lost.

And, we're still looking to utilise the history board a little better, and this could be a way of doing it.

I reckon I've watched this half a dozen times.

I was far far too young to appreciate him at his prime (roughly 5 years old) but rewatching his highlights makes you really gush in awe at how classy he was.

On another note, Rama was another player I've recently had a look for and I managed to find this footage of him back in 2000.

His turn at 0:10 is one of the greatest things you will see on a football field.

That clip reinforces how bloody good we were. So many gun players. Really reinforces that we probably should have won at least one more.

I refuse to accept that the current Hawthorn team is better than that 1999 to 2001 team (as compared to the standard of the day).

Brilliant clubman Mercs, early days we got him on the cheap, he was blitzing and was being paid unders.his last couple of years (inflated by freo) when he was on the big coin he wasn't producing and he stepped away from the last year of his contract. Now THAT is a good clubman.
His brothers passing affected him hugely, you can understand him tapering off.

Played what was one of the greatest ever quarters in the 1999 qualifying final, was named best on ground by many pundits despite being off the ground early in the second quarter with a groin strain that ruined that season, was not fit in the prelim..Out and out gun, would love to see that quarter again if anybody out there has a copy please..
