The best marks I can ever remember in the WAFL were West Perth rover Corrie Bewick (Darren's brother I think) in 1980 when he just kept going up. Similar mark to Ottens this season, only better.

And Micahel Mitchell for Claremont v Subiaco in 1986 when he just about stood on Phil Lamb's head, he was so high!

Got a big marks book with a few more WA rippers in it, namely Kevin Taylor and Warren Ralph from the early 80's, geez Taylor could jump for a little bugger. tamblings was amazing, he floated sideways for a couple of feet about 4 1/2 ft in the air before he got to the collingwood bloke!!!

No sorry.

I reckon Johnno Browns v hawthorn was better than Riewoldt's
Not mark of the century, but I always thought this was this better than Riewoldt's - was in the same round, ran from where the ball was kicked, got higher, and jumped into a pack :p

I've seen many, many years of footage and great marks but Moorcrofts is the best by far. He just launches himself, takes the pill with the dukes and lands on his back with a big thud. Any truth that the fall from that mark resulted in his short career? Was an absolute ripper, beats Ablett, Smith and Sampi for me.

Tarrant in 2001 against Melbourne, one of the best pack marks ever?

Tarrant was very very unlucky in 2001.. I remember eddie even made a trophy "the mark" or something, but then moorcroft took that ultimate 'screamer'.

Yeah, I remember those two. Both very memorable. Another one I should mention was taken by Paul Medhurst for Claremont v West Perth just a few years ago. If I remember correctly it was sent in by some amateur to the "Almost Footy Legends" segment on TFS.

Anyway, Medhurst leaped so high above this pack, he just seemed to get an armchair ride above two or three blokes and seemed to stay up forever to pull down this scorcher.

Yep, I agree. What was so amazing about the Moorcroft mark was that it came off a mongrel kick at low trajectory. It wasn't set up as a nice, high drop punt for him to get a good look at.

Winmar vs Essnedon at Moorabbin in the late eighties

Winmar launches himself onto the shoulders of Essendon ruckman Simon Madden who had simultaneously positioned himself onto the shoulders of a teammate and rival Saints player

It was taken to the right of the animal enclosure - Nepean highway flank

He received a minutes standing ovation and the other players were standing around in shock as were we - best mark I have ever seen and will ever see

It was captured on film however he was so high he was out of camera shot

Nicky Winmar was an absolute freak:thumbsu:

Moorcroft's was a gem.
Smith's was spectacular
BUT
The mark of the century didnt even win mark of the yr....it stupidly went to a classic "backyard special" from Sampi that u see every weekend at club level.

I was at the SCG when Riewoldt took that amazing grab...it was a weird reaction from the crowd...disbelief tinged with concern for the bloke....ppl had their hands over their mouths thinking he'd be half-dead....we didnt expect him to get up without broken bones.... we still managed to booo him loudly next time he came around our wing of course.

To me that was the most spectacular mark i've seen. You can get lucky with a ride....it can just happen for anyone....but Riewoldt's grab is timeless...u dont just get lucky with those.

Moorcroft v Western Bulldogs at TD was the best I saw, absolute peach.
Brett Allison at the MCG in the late 80's was up there with that one, Shaun Smith's was awesome.
A couple of grabs by Capper would rate up there as well, I remember one he took at Waverley during the '86 Finals series which was an absolute gem, against Hawthorn I think.
Kenny Hunter flinging himself back into the oncoming traffic to take an awesome grab against Richmond in '83 at Princes Park was memorable.
Some of the hangers Winmar took were great to watch.

That Tim Inkster one mentioned earlier was a great grab, can't remember too many truly memorable spekkies from here, most memorable would be Glenorchy's Mark Spilsbury taking one in the goalsquare, time-on, last quarter at KGV one day in the Statewide League in the 90's against New Norfolk, he just went up and stayed up - went back and kicked the goal to win the game by 3-points as well.
One other would be Phil Knight in the Statewide League taking a grab for Hobart on the old Institute wing at North Hobart being up higher than the terraces when he took it.

Having said all that, Moorcroft aside, the rest were last century's news.
Struggling to think of any truly memorable ones from this decade apart from that one, Abraham's at Manuka perhaps?
Not many others though.

At least Burton keeps the tone up a bit.
