Is currently on 202* for Surrey, is this guy having a freak county season or what? He has been on fire with the bat and has easily been the best batsman all season in England, It's a shame he wasnt younger, its also a shame he was so ****e at International level. Take a look at these stats for the season so far.

Matches: 11
Innings: 17
No's: 2
Runs: 1653
HS: 292
Average: 110.20
100's: 7
50's:5

With scores so far this season reading: 71, 12, 113, 22, 292, 118, 14, 48, 73, 87*, 51, 20, 156, 51, 155, 167, 202*

Just thought i would let you know, not bad for a 37 yr old that averaged 27 from 50 tests at a strike rate of 36 :thumbsu:

Against 2nd division bowling attacks...

John Crawley has hit 5 centuries so far this season against some of the best teams in the country...

Never... Just look at Crawley's test average... well into the thirties...

If Crawley was up against the worst team in the country (Which Northants are) he would score 250+

Well considering who they are playing against they have both been pretty excellent... Crawley passes 150...

Shame Hick's injured (i'm assuming this, surley he's not, heaven forbid, dropped!!!) would have been nice to see my 3 fav Pom willow weilders having days out at the same time

Ramps 248*, a 2500 run season is not out of the question if this keeps happening

Agree they have both been excellent this season, making runs with such ease.

Ramprakash - 250* & 1700 runs from 17 Innings :thumbsu:

Ends on 301*

Matches: 11
Innings: 17

Runs: 1751
HS: 300*

Ramprakash was always fantastic to watch. Belongs in a bracket of English batsmen including Hick, and to a lesser extent Maynard, who should've delivered long and distinguished international careers.

This isn't a freak season, Ramprakash is like this virtually every season. Awesome run scorer in county cricket, but couldn't get his head together for tests.

Ramprakash was dudded by the England selectors. I don't have an stats to back it up but it seemed that the majority of his test matches were against Australia and the West Indies. The selectors would choose him for the tough series because they knew he could handle the pressure ok and certainly handle it better than the other soft middle order batters they had.

He missed out on the home series vs Sri Lanka and New Zealand etc.

You pushing Rampa's case for selection perhaps Browney? Wouldn't hurt to have him playing against us, the way England are going :)

No of course not he would never push into the solid batting line-up that we have, i have no idea what the rest of your post is meant to mean.

Care to give us another season of Rampra's like this?

Just increases my belief apropos Langer's current form that you can't read too much into it. There's no comparison between what someone is doing at county level and the test scene.

2005-

1568 runs, 74.66 average, 6 hundreds, 5 fifties, best 252

2004-

1564 runs, 65.16 average, 7 hundreds, 6 fifties, best 161

2003-

1444 runs, 76.00 average, 6 hundreds, 2 fifties, best 279*

Yes, this season has been even more exceptional that usual, but my point is that this isn't really a freak from Ramprakash, no ones surprised he is doing what he is doing. Consistently outstanding in county cricket, year in, year out.

Yeh.....its only like double those numbers, he has scored at least 200 more runs that all those seasons, plus more hundreds and there is still 5 games is it? To go. As someone else said he is on track to make 2500+ which is a heap load compared to those seasons.

I can't say I'm any expert on his career, but the stats don't seem to back this up re: pressure.

Granted, he played 16 times v West Indies, the first eleven when they were still a top side. He made twelve appearances against the Aussies, but the first three were dead rubbers at the end of series in 1993, 94-95 and 97. He played in all five Tests v South Africa at home in 1998, the first 5 Test series the Poms won in twelve years, averaging a middling 31.

Maybe it was a failure of concentration or technique, but he could only score between 13 and 29 in each of his first nine Test innings in '91 against a Windies attack that struggled to smash the Poms the way it had in 1984 and 1988.

His record was very scratchy even against the lesser sides. The following three Test innings were all ducks made at home against Sri Lanka (1991) and Pakistan (1992).

Maturity no doubt played a part in his recall to Test cricket, but again even then he never dominated a series, his best being a string of half-centuries against Australia in 1998-99.

& after Rampras disappointing 30 in the second innings of the game where he made his 300 (Dismissed about 5 runs from Surrey winning the game) He has hit back in the next game making another excellent hundred.

Currently 102*

And is on 1883 runs this season from 20* innings

and against the 2nd best team in their team.... Surrey are far too good for that league though. Creepy creeping towards another Half century 34*

He was a failure in international cricket because he's pretty mentally fragile
