This guy was more of an AA accumulator(a testament to his consistency) than the best guy in his position year in year out.

Compare to Robert Harvey

Do interchange spots in the AA mean as much as other on-field positions? Is it fair to rate Ricciuto's 8 AA selections with 4 on the bench higher than someone with 6 AA's with none on the bench?

Riccuito's amount of AA's is used in arguments in his favour of his ranking among Hird, Voss, and Buckley.

Buckley 7 AA's. 7 on the field.
Voss 5 AA's. 5 on the field.
Ricciuto 8 AA's. 4 on the field.
Hird 5 AA's. 4 on the field.

Probably not an unfair comment, especially when it comes to midfielders.

Every year there's plenty of good mids who could fill the spots. The absolute indisputable locks are generally put as Rover, RR and Centre, followed by the more outside-leaning mids on the wings and an attacking mid or two who might have just missed out on a centre spot chucked on the HFF. Then 2-3 mids on the interchange who seem the next rung down but still good enough to make the team.

All it says is that Ricciuto was consistently considered in the top 5-8 mids in those seasons but not perhaps in the top 2-3. Consistency should certainly be valued but 8 All Australians indicate a far more competition dominating player then perhaps he was

If not for the Victorian bias, he would have been named in the starting 18, like in 1997 with 18 Brownlow votes... not that it really matters.

Roo & McLeod are comfortably the best 2 Crows players of all time.

Maybe, he dominated Dean Kemp in this 1 though

Interestingly in his Brownlow winning season of 2003 he was AA Half Forward. But the very next season where he put out near identical output he was named AA Ruck Rover. More recognition among the selectors. Meanwhile 30 vote polling Brownlow winning young Chris Judd was sitting on the wing of the AA team in 2004. Does show that some superficial things can sway decisions.

Not sure. Pretty confident he is the worst 7 time premiership player of all time though.
Nah .. that would just be a BS statement. I find it hard to believe you ever saw him play. Although he is probably the only 7 time premiership player in recent history .. :)
