I wouldn't rule it out, but he's leaving for more opportunity and I don't see how he's going to get that at Collingwood unless we trade Fraser also, which is highly unlikely.

Agree with that. I'd like Seaby under two circumstances neither is likely to happen. A we get Seaby trade Fraser draft another ruckmen at some stage in the draft delist Bryan. Therefore having Seaby and Wood as starting ruckmen. Plus Keeffe plus draftee developing.

Alternatively I'd draft him and delist Bryan if he was happy to play third wheel.

None of that will happen.

Go for it pies!
Freinds in WA know him well and he is unlucky to have the best ruckman in the last 20 years on his own team he is very frustrated as he wants the no1 mantle and is sure he can assume it at another club.
If you watch him play the guy is definatly no mug, his ruckwork is better than average,
has a good tank for a big guy, can and does take contested marks and is a straight kick at goal.
He would be a 100% improvement on bryan and with Seaby in the team and Wood coming on as hoped and Fraser injury free all of a sudden the ruck looks pretty damm good i would say.

Id take him, then piss bryan off quick smart.

But whats the price?

Apparently Richmond have offered their 2nd round pick number 24 for him. Not sure if its true I have no source but thats what they're saying on the WC forum. We can't beat this unless we offer a good enough player swap with them. The only one I can see getting the job done and we might accept is Rusling (doubt it though). Guys like Bryan, Cox, Johnson, R Shaw would not get the job done.

Doesn't look like we are interested. For once a player has become available and the Collingwood name is not in the same sentence as the player's.

Life member O'Keefe to face masses

West Coast's premiership ruckman Mark Seaby has told the club he wants to be traded.

His Perth-based manager Wayne Loxley yesterday said he had approached Richmond, Carlton and St Kilda, and would also contact Sydney.

Carlton have #24 and it's been touted as the likely compensation to Freo for Warnock. Richmond have something like #26.

People who are saying that it would be a good idea to go after Seaby so that Fraser could be released into the forward line aren't thinking clearly. We have that many tall forward options next year that it would be stupid to play Fraser up forward. Hopefully Wood can bulk up a bit more during the off-season, for he has shown signs of being a promising ruckmen. I think Seaby is a bit excessive, instead if we want to add to our ruckmen stocks then I think we should draft or rookie a massive, bid-bodied, tall ruckman (roughly 205 cm and 110 kgs). Don't worry about him being unco, just if he can provide a contest and win his fair shair of hit-outs, that would be awesome for a reserve ruckman.

if you wanted to replace bryan , then itd be ideal. but i really think we need to let wood ruck all next year , and bryan can come in when theres an injury to fraser or wood.

seaby would push wood back a spot again.

stick with wood , draft a young ruck then you have 4 ruck options. even though the new kid will be pretty raw

Bumping the thread. I think with WCE going for their ruckman of the future at no.2(Nicholas Naitanui ) I think Marky Seaby might be worth going after. We could probably get him for a third or fourth rounder, or for someone like Cox who may want to go home. Thoughts?

While it may be a good idea for a few years, wouldn't it be better to develop Keefe and give Wood more confidence by playing him in more games? Maybe it will help...

Would get rid of Bryan.... a lor better option than him. Wood I think has huge upside but doesn't seem to grasp it and want to learn all about it. I have hopes for Keeffe, but he is a very long term project. We need some stability in the ruck sooner rather than later. So, if Wood doesn't live up by the end of this season, we could go after him and wait for Keeffe. Not a bad plan.

Please stay away from anymore cast-offs.

Seriously, I don't care how "cheap" they are.

There is a reason they are on the "outer" at their current clubs.

We have been burnt and learnt our lessons when taking on Leigh brown and Anthony Corrie.

Just keep developing our own.

Only trade for an A-grader or emerging youngster.

I'd be targetting Mitch Brown from WCE.

Is versatile enough to play key back or key forward and we definitely need to recruit another key defender or two this year.

i totally agree with this, but i am not sure if this sort of logic would be considered with malthouse at the reigns.

Exactly what i was thinking. Is NOT going to solve any problems as he is IMO in the same mould as the disappointing recruits we drafted last year. Give Wood some time - he should not be dropped for Bryan like some posters believe. He wasn't bad and should continue to improve

There is a distinct difference between Seaby and the off casts Bryan and L Brown.

Seaby has shown without doubt that he is an AFL standard first ruck. He gets limited gametime playing along side the premier ruck of the competition.

When played as a first ruck their has been no doubt that Seaby is good enough. As has been mentioned earlier Seaby is in the same position Jolly was prior to being traded. He is more King or Medhurst then Brown or Bryan. In fact he is in a similar position to Wood was when we traded for him in that he is missing out on oppertunity due to the strength of his teams ruck division. Unlike Wood he has shown that he can carry a sides ruck division to an acceptable level.

Beggers can't be choosers, to say don't accept him as he is another teams hack is inaccurate as I have stated he has shown he is an AFL level number 1 ruck as opposed to Bryan who was a VFL player at Carlton and L Brown who was always a hack. We can hope Wood and Keeffe develop but that is all we have to base it on Wood is yet to string 4 good quaters together at AFL level or 4 good games together at VFL level. I am optimistic about Keeffe as a prospect but he is still a long way off.

Yeah and there is a massive difference between seaby and the quality ruckmen in the competition. IMO he will just be another bit player. Does not seem to have the agility to cover the ground and affect the contest at ground level. He is a good tap ruckman but these days ruckman have to be able to do more than that.
True that he did perform well as the #1 ruck when Cox is injured but that was a few years ago. Lets see how wood develops and performs in the coming weeks. Contrary to popular belief he was far from disgraceful on the weekend

god I wish we went after Hmac last year

We'd be missing out on Rusty if that were to happen.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

However, there are a few trade targets that could be worthwhile exploring come season's end.

Mitch Brown, Patrick Veszpremi and Brett Meredith are all likely types I would consider.

Target some Vic boys from these interstate clubs.

veszpremi hopefully is high on our list, i can picture him becoming a real dynamo, hopefully he's feeling a little homesick. M Brown would be nice but wouldn't come cheap.

Let him go back to the farm in Mukinbudin. He has had a couple of opportunities at the Eagles and hasnt taken it up a level that we would expect at Collingwood.

While rusty is great and I think he will develop in one of our better players our rucks are a disgrace and need much more attention then the mids I would be happy with Hmac instead of Rusty
