It's about list management. Seaby fills a gaping hole. That 23-28 year old ruckmen. Hes right at the start of that. You cant get that in the draft.

Just look at Putt. We wont see him for another 2-3 years minimum.

Seaby will be a very good pick-up.

From what I remember of him (and I've seen a bit), he's pushing the 'big, loping ruckman' tag.

But having just re-signed Graham, is having 4 ruckmen on the senior list too many?

I could probably be persuaded either way. Would surely discount any play at Vickery though - 5 ruckmen is getting ridiculous.

Guys he's really very handy.

Had absolutely no chance to impact with Cox in the team. Would come on for 5-10min and naturally struggle to get into the game.

He is also very good deep forward, always kicks a goal or 2 a game.

Just remember how crap Cox looked as Gardiners understudy. Rucks need to be given the #1 gig to shine.

Also remember that rucks do have a trade premium. Jolly for pick 17, Wood for pick 14, Barry Brooks for pick 8 etc. Seaby has shown alot more than all of them, he had a poor year this year, mainly because Cox was ripping it up but you wont be disapointed I assure you.

At very least you have a solid ruckman for the next 7yrs. He will be competitive and kick you some goals. At best, he will break out because he has a chance to show his wares. There is a strong change he will be a much, much improved player at his new club. And I'm sure thats why 3-4 clubs have already expressed an interest.

And for those who want Warnock instead. Well they both play at the same WAFL club, Seaby absolutely head and shoulders over Warnock. Seaby domainates the WAFL in a huge way. Warnock was chucking hissy fits and trying to get cheap touches on the flanks. Just because Warnock looks smoother does not mean he is a better player. Or even close.

He is not just a bona fide spud who will be delisted in 2yrs. No way.

People are going to have to keep in mind with potential trades like yours that we currently have 3 or 4 spots open on the main list (depending on rookie upgrades) and when Seaby leaves it'll be 4 or 5 spots.

Considering that we have picks 2, 18, 20 and 36, we'll be most likely to trade Seaby for one item, a player or a pick, or upgrade one of our picks with him involved.

I'd say that with Richmond a decent trade may be Seaby + 36 for 26 but I honestly think we could get better from another club.

Yeah, but if we traded Seaby for 26, our pick 36 wouldn't be used so we'd be able to chuck it in.

Of course, that's assuming that both Wilkes and Davis are upgraded and that we don't want to swing any kind of other deal involving pick 36.

I think the Brent Connelly saga may have indicated a little of the thought process that goes on at West Perth - ie, we play our own and everyone else can just bide their time. Seaby is a West Perth player, Warnock is not.

This just makes the re-signing of Graham all the more puzzling. Seriously, we could have dropped him off the list and rookied him without any other club noticing. (I don't know why he was ever promted in the first place. It was totally unnecessary.) It means Cartledge will leave the club, even though he's shown a lot more (eg. he can mark above his head) and is at least able to compete at senior level.
I'd hope to hang onto pick 26 but if we want Seaby we'll probably have to give it up. He's a decent player and he does fill a need. Ideally we can offload a couple of players and pick up another 2nd round pick. I'd be marketing Polo and someone else to Freo for pick 21. We would win hugely if we bring in Seaby + 21 for 26 + Polo + Cass/JON/King. I know we just re-signed King but I'd pay his contract if they took him.
I know we're supposed to hang onto our picks but if we did this and the rumours of Lachie Hansen wanting out of North are true and he comes to us for pick 8, I reckon we'd have done very, very well. If we did get Hansen I would even be prepared to look at trading Schulz for Port's pick 22.

I would like to keep 8 and pick up the best midfield option at that pick, trade 26 to the Eagles in return for Seaby and their 3rd round pick. That way we would get to add depth to our midfield, would get the ruckman we need and would still have 3 picks inside the first 3 rounds.

If Cameron can pull this sort of deal off then I'm sure he would win over quite a few doubters on this board.

so do I , his stats are pretty respectable considering he spends so little time in the ruck and ground and certainly wont be commanding 400k a year either

This is what happens when you neglect ruckmen in list management. Forced to pay over the odds for ordinary players. If we give up our second rounder for him it would be very disappointing.

Another year of trading picks for players and not the other way around it looks like. We will never learn.

The facts are beaver, very few ruckman turn out to be really good players...How many dean cox's are out there ...Certainly didnt see any GF day...Say we did use the R2 pick on a U18 ruckman, there;s only a remote possibility he will turn out to be better than Seaby and thats the facts Jack...Id pay R2 pick for him which leaves us open to secure a top class mid with R1 selection, we'd be laughing like fat spiders I reckon
