We talking eagle or pelican?

I say more of a duck ;)

EDIT..what forward press said

Please no.

Seaby was/is only good when he had the primary ruck duties in Cox's absence. Up forward he is painfully average.
If one of Cox/Naita went down, the other would presumably shoulder the majority of the ruck responsibilities, meaning that Seaby would be moved back to the backup role which he is so average at. Realistically he wouldn't add much more than Lycett as a forward/backup ruckman, and Lycett's development would be hampered. Would prefer that we had faith in Lycett and used Seaby's potential spot to pick up a young ruckman.

If Cox or Naitanui miss more than a few games, we're not going to win the flag, so what's the point?

But if in those few games we have someone who can perform at a reasonable level and help to get us over the line in those games it might make all the difference at the end of the year. If I had confidence in Lycett I may not be pro recruiting Seaby but up to this point Lycett has not given me any reason to think he could even do a support ruck role. :)

No! He may be experienced, but we didn't trade him because we got an awesome offer for him, we did it because he was too slow and unco-ordinated to play even as a back-up ruck anymore. Throw in his injury problems at the Saints and I'd rather pick just about any other spare ruckman around.

Who do people think is the best mature age WAFL ruckman - Wes Lammie? Paul Johnson?

I am hoping the Seaby rumour is true, as it will all but confirm the lack of faith West Coast have in Lycett, thus leading to a trade request by him at the end of the year for a SA return (hopefully PAFC obviously).

Why is it that the Eagles seem unconvinced with Lycett? He was a great young SANFL player.

Yeah because Seaby is the future  Completely absurd logic. Most teams have 4 ruckmen and NicNat may miss the start of the season. Lycett has been playing mainly as a forward and has had his own injury problems.

We'd be recruiting Seaby as our second back-up option. He'd only play if NN and Cox were both out.

Lycett would play whenever one of Cox/NN were not available.

Think the club is viewing Lycett more as a tall forward than a ruckman. I haven't watched much of Peel in the WAFL but he generally lines up at FF there doesn't he?

Not against rookie drafting a experienced ruckman. If its not going to be Seaby I'd be the most interested in Sean Tighe or Callum Sinclair from the WAFL. Symonds as very much a development prospect

This.
Any Rookie ruck pick would be five years off being ready to play.
We are in premiership mode.
Any ruck backup insurance would be good.
Seaby is the set of a poor bunch available.
Just look at the list of mature rucks getting second, third and fourth chances.

This. I don't like the idea of recruiting old guys for the sake of depth, particularly when we have players like McInnes and McGovern that haven't dipped their toe in the water.

McInnes is a key position player and McGovern is shorter than Matt Rosa.
Ruck prospects that missed in the National Draft are:
Liam McBean
Darcy Fort
Cameron Symonds
Jack Hannath
All clubs passed on them in a draft light on for rucks.
Only 2 rucks were taken in the draft, Grundy and Pierce.
Clubs are considering Laycock,Blake,Hudson,Wood,Brogan,Stevenson. This must say something about the need and availability of decent ruck prospects at present.
Also in next years intake in the Institute of Sport there is only 2 recognized rucks (the lowest ever)

WCE didn't want to trade Seaby.
He chose to leave due to lack of opportunities.

I think this is part of the reason the AFL clubs wanted the reserves deal with the WAFL clubs, so they could stop their guys being played out of position, and trained using different methods.

With Lycett they were playing him more forward in the WAFL to have him being able to rest forward like Nic Nat and Cox do and have an impact. Seaby was a decent and capable backup to Cox in 2005-2007 but fell away quickly as the game changed and was not very good up forward.
