The above mentioned Herald-Sun scribe gave your correspondent a major dose of the irrits this morning, thanks to the following two pars of his match report of the Pies-Lions battle...

Hey, the 'G is not so bad after all. Just ask the lone Lions fan in the members doing a strange victory dance after the game-sealing goals in time-on.

He may not have seen a win at the home of footy since Brenton Phillips went on a rampage against the Kangas in 1987 to get Brisbane home in its very first game.

Anyone reading that, and who wasn't there yesterday, would think that the Lions had bugger-all support at the game, and those supporters that were there, were from the Bears side of the family!

Yet again, we see more clumsy journalism reinforcing the public's misconception that the Brisbane Lions are merely a re-badged Brisbane Bears with little or no support from the old Fitzroy folk in Melbourne.

In actual fact, it was great to see 8,000 or so old Roys supporters rejoice in the vanquishing of an age-old foe.

Sorry to bore yers with my mini-rant, but I just felt the need to purge my system of all this built up angst.

Who is Mark Stevens (the journo) anyway? Does he know anything about footy? Is he old enough to remember Fitzroy?

One of the things I liked best about football in Melbourne involving interstate teams was the fact that there was a significant "away" following - Swans particularly, but also to a lesser degree (when I was watching) Brisbane. The Eagles had a reasonable following, but not enough really, even when we were successful.

You mean there was an incorrect stating of the facts in the Herald Sun??? Surely not

And what happened to the Brisbane Lions been considered a new entity? Surely that means Brisbane have in fact lost a lot less than 35 of their past 40 matches at the MCG?
