Well no one actually knows if he has been given a contract to sign. The last time he was out of contract he almost went home. Reason for that was he didnt want the club talking about him signing, Schwab or whoever it was told the media Pav was signing when he hadnt even looked it over. This time Pav has told the club he wont talk about his future until seasons end, it looks to me like we are going along with Pav's request to talk about it at seasons end. I wish some speculation would hit Riewoldt, Dal Santo and Judd just like Pavlich is getting hammered about it.

If you think Pav will screw freo over then you have no idea what sort of bloke the Fremantle captain is.
Err... It was reported in the Age this morning that Dal Santo and X. Clarke have already agreed to new contracts and Saints and Riewoldt's manager Ricky Nixon hope to finalise the contract for Nick today or in the next 2 days!

Wow! Hold on a sec!

Since when is it that Pavlich or anyone else can't have business interests outside the state he lives in. If he does come to Adelaide, and I mean the Crows, he would have COUNTLESS opportunities to invest with prominent business people like Robert Gerard and Peter Hurley who are strongly tied to our club. One is a board memeber who is a hotel industry tycoon and has multi-million business interests including some with Mark Ricciuto and Simon Goodwin. Robert Gerard own Clipsal among other things and has been with us since day one. His investement opportunities in Adelaide would be just as big as they are in Perth.

He also has a family and close friend back in SA and has said a number of times on 5AA over the years that he would like to finish his career in Adelaide. Couple that with the apparent fact that his agent is John Reid's son and there are signs that point to a possible departure.

He might well stay with Freo but all these things combined with his reluctance to talk contract until the end of the season, would make me nervous if I was a Freo fan.

Again he did not say he definitely would finish in Adelaide. What he said was he would eventually return to Adelaide, whether that was during or after football he didnt know.

In regards to business interests, i was pointing out he had them here in Perth and that could keep him here along with his Girlfriend and close mates especially Hasleby. He could be studying over here as well (might be finished the course now tho).

Adelaide people are just clutching at straws just like melbournians thinking they will get Judd or Brisbane getting Riewoldt back. Wont happen, not matter how much media scrutiny they are under

Pav better re-sign, the only team i would hate to see pav at more than port is west coast. what a bunch of arrogant wan.ers that team is from their presdient, to their coach and even their captain in tredrae. cant stand them

lol dont worry wce will never get pavlich.

Being realistic most people believe Pav will stay with Freo but whilst the gate is being left open all would be foolish to not try to get a player of his quality to their club.

Oh he didn't say definetly but he did say "I would like to finish my career back home" and that was in a radio interview just AFTER he signed his last contract with you guys.

His business interests might not mean much at all since Wayne Carey owns a pub in Adelaide but lives in Melbourne and Kane Johnson owns a horse with Mark Ricciuto, Simon Goodwin and a couple of other Crows boys.

Those business interest are not strong links. They are links but there is no reason why he can't keep those business interests and move away. As for his course, Tyson Stenglein was studying a course at Adelaide Uni and that didn't stop him from asking to be traded to WC. There are such things as uni transfers ;)

Yeah, I am not kiding the fact that I would personally LOVE to have Pavlich at the Crows over ANY other player in the comp but the fact that he has continually put contract talks off until after the season is not exactly a great sign for Freo.

I find it funny that Port Adelaide and Adelaide supporters just expect Pavlich to be playing for them next year because he is from Adelaide, maybe Lance Franklin should be playing for us because he is from WA, doesnt work that way. Pavlich is pretty happy in WA at the moment, has his business interests here with his best mate Hasleby, owns a horse with Judd, his Girlfriend is from WA, he owns real estate in WA. He has a lot more on offer here in Perth than Adelaide has to offer. The fact is both Adelaide sides are just as far away as Fremantle are from the Premiership, all 3 wont win it this year.

Carr's gf was from Adelaide and he also continues to have business interests in Adeliade as he is business partners with Dom Cassisi, so don't be fooled into the belief that a player will not move for a better or perceived better opportunity at another club. FWIW I am not overly perturbed about securing the services of Pavlich as Port is establishing a mighty fine line list which would only be further enhanced by Pavlich.

Port trolls on the Freo forum. Situation normal.

The sheer arrogance of Port announcing publicly that they'll take him before the year is out is astounding. How can you even compare Josh Carr being traded? Did Connolly come out and say it in the mass media?

Firstly Port has NOT said they WILL take him... that would be stupid wouldnt it. What has been said is that if he came to Port he would be a great addition etc etc. Exactly what Adelaide and Richmond (I believe) have said.

Secondly did Connoly say it to the mass media, well from June 04 there was talk coming of Carr to Freo. And in Grand Final week Connoly was gloating about it in a cafe in melbourne filled with media. This was revealed by an SA media identity who was in that cafe and overheard the talk and was staggered he would be so open.

It was referred to (cryptically) in todays Advertiser.

I'd guess that'd be Rucci. The only way he'd be in that cafe is hiding under a table overnight, there's no way they'd invite him along

Ah no it wasnt.

But thats by the by.

Williams makes Pavlich U-turn

By Tom Wald
July 16, 2007
PORT Adelaide coach Mark Williams has certainly changed his tune about AFL star Matthew Pavlich.
The 2004 premiership-winning mentor was singing the praises of the off-contract Fremantle captain after Port Adelaide's 91-point belting of West Coast on Saturday.
However, the Power coach might be hoping the four-time All-Australian doesn't have a long memory.
Williams openly questioned the ambition of the gun forward after he re-signed with the Dockers for three years back in August 2002.
"There's a few people back in Adelaide, a couple of young centre half-backs at our club, that are jumping for joy,'' Williams said at the time.
"They will look forward to playing in a top side and one that is certainly pushing and has been at the top for the last couple of years.
"If Matthew doesn't want to make that jump then that's his decision.''
It was clear on the weekend that Williams's opinion of the South Australian had softened over the years.
"Matthew Pavlich adds to our group exactly what we all need,'' Williams said.
"He is a quality person, he has got great character and he works really hard. He would fit very nicely into our group and is a fantastic leader.
"I have spoken to our players about him and if we had the opportunity, and he saw fit that Port Adelaide was the right mix for him, it would be a dream come true for all of our players and certainly our coaching staff.''
AAP

I wonder if Malthouse has spoken to his players about the possibility of Judd coming to play with them? What sort of an fool is Williams? I wonder if he added "... at least two of you young midfielders are going to be given the arse in the process"
