Mark Williams has signed a three year contract which means he will coach Port Adelaide up until the end of the 2004 season!

onya chocko!

Congratulations Macca...Port will now proceed to win only 4 of their remaining 9 games and finish out of the 8 on percentage ;)

Seriously...signing coaches mid-year is a recipe for disaster if you ask me. If Port were to miss the finals, especially after the start they had, you supporters would be calling for the blokes head.

I hope for your sake that doesn't eventuate.

Sorry did I miss something??? I didn't realise there had been an agreement by all 16 clubs that any contract entered into between the club and coach/player would always be honoured.

We all know contracts aren't worth the piece of paper they are written on. :D

Yes i know that...but in any case...the contract must always get payed out 'in full'. Struggling clubs in particular can't go sacking coaches left-right-and-centre!

true, i dont like the idea of mid year contract renewals and it has been proven in the past that the team tend to go downhill because of it (probably just a coincidence) like Tony Shaw in 97.

But anyway, im glad we have resigned him as he is a very good coach and Freo was afer him in a pretty big way by all accounts so good to know we have him.

Thanks for reminding us about Shawry in 1997, Macca.
Gee, you're a real pal.

I think we were 6-2 and on top of the ladder at the time. Hey, sign him up. No worries. Then it all turned to schytte.

Ah, the Kevin Rose administration!!!!

I really don't think you'll have that problem at Port. They're playing like woolly goats at the moment but we all know they're better than that ...

Or, at least SOME of us know that.

:D

And Chocko is several leagues above Shaw as a coach.

But I still don't see the point of making decisions on coaching contracts mid-season, unless they feared he was being targeted by another club.

Yeah i understand. Personally, i thought a 3 year renewal was stretching it a little. I don't believe in 1 year coaching contracts (as if a coach would accept that), but a 2 year deal would have been more appropriate. Keep him hungry, whilst giving him enough security to fend off rival clubs (in this case Fremantle).

I just think 3 years is a little heavy. You're a young and improving side, but i'd hate to see you guys take a step backwards over the coming years because your coach was comfortable. But then again...i guess i would be hard when you have the Adelaide media watching your every move.

Goalden hawks, you know that was a question on Who wants to be a millionaire tonight, LOL

Question was
Who said," We all know contracts aren't worth the piece of paper they are written on"
