John**** had a great game as did Wangas, Wakelin and Cornes. What surprised me though was John****s opponent also had a great game and was also one of the Port Adel's best. I guess West End seen this as a consolation prize for the Crows, in a way he did win the game for us giving away that costly free to Burgoyne in the dying minutes on our forward 50. I mean Biglands was going to mark the ball anyway and the Crows had players free all down the ground, it ended up being a crucial turnover in the match.
 
Firstly, this was a very hard game to give votes, which is why there were a spread of vote getters. IMO, C Cornes was BOG & Wakelin, K Cornes & Wanganeen all had very good games. However, as has been pointed out, because the game was close, the judges were always going to give votes to a Crows player - & there was only 1 obvious player - whereas Port had several outstanding players who split the votes. If Choco is upset he should have not made it public tarninshing Stiffy's good game. It was in poor taste. Better off trying to rectify the voting system so it is fair for next time. Whilst Stiffy winning was a suprise being on a losing side, it was not undeserved IMO.
 
It is the same principle of why the Magarey Medallist often is selected from a team that finished in the middle of the pack. Usually the top team take votes off each other.

Williams is just being his usual petulant self. I hope Johnschlong plays a blinder next Showdown to bash it up the whining fool.

Floodbuster, West End has nothing to do with the voting, so you can't say it was their way of giving the Crows a consolation prize.

Today's Advertiser states that John(ock wasn't on Burgoyne the whole time, so he didn't have three goals kicked on him.

It may have been petty to highlight Williams' comments here, but I dislike the man so much, it was one more thing to add to the list of "reasons to despise this man".

His comment bad luck about Basset's injury is another.
 
Mark Williams is one of those coaches who always comes off as angry, almost bitter... his behaviour when interviewed puzzles me.

Worsfold has coached an beat Choco on one instance to date, at home (where teams rarely beat West Coast) when Choco had half his side out through injury and the like. So in a head to head battle I currently would back a Choco led team.

Whats the head to head between the two? 5-1 isnt it?

Ayres has a win from 42 points down against Ports worst ever side.

Williams has 2 wins from 36 points and 27(?) points down against the Crows when Adelaide were a top 8 and top 4 side.

Williams kills Ayres in head-to-head clashes. Both have only won the 1 final. Both would have similar winning percentage (Ayres 53%, Williams 58%). Both took over average lists and have turned them into a top 4 team in the league. Both have positives and negatives about their coaching style. How one can conclude that Ayres is much better than Williams is absolutely kidding themselves.

You are wrong, West End choose the voting panel, I was using it in text to the medals name and the people who make the rules and select the people and the voting system. Did you want me to name each and every voter for you next time. Once again a consolation prize, be happy with it, it's the only thing you guys have won in the past 6 showdowns. If West End wanted to they could have ignored the voters they chose and handed it to whoever they wanted as Glendenning did in the Derby game.

Head to head is 5-3; an advantage, not a killing.

Ayres has won 3 finals. Two in 1996, one last year - all away from home, incidentally.

I didn't say that Ayres is _much_ better than Williams. I said I think he is better. Big difference.

It's all to do with how importantly you rate their respective positives and negatives, as you say. If I had to choose between Ayres and Williams to coach my club, I'd choose Ayres. Others may differ, but that's up to them.

So what areas do you think are Ayres positivers compared to Williams (and vice versa) ?

Obviously not many when they are matched directly against Williams in a Showdown. However, some coaches/teams just matchup better on others (eg. you guys v Pagan/Roos). Ayres has rebuilt the Crows team & has us generally playing a hard attacking style. He certainly doesn't whinge at press conferences or denegrate the opposition's player who was given BOG!
