I thought that it would be useful to have a thread, which captures information about market value. It will hopefully inform discussions about the value of our players and offers to other players.

My current thinking is that it should be in a tabular form, organised firstly by team. There would be the player's name, the vaue and a link to the relevant article or podcast. If this format doesn't work, we can change it.

MV denotes possible market value. So, ...

Market value vs intrinsic value are two different things. With 17 potential buyers of players outside of their current club I think it's madness for a club to allow private information to be allowed in the public domain around fringe players. Market value is based on supply and demand. Say mullet for example, while I haven't seen anything publicly talk here is that he's been told to find another home. Why do that, as far as I'm concerned he's a required player who is yet to agree terms with the club on a new contract. Comes down to demand for a particular type of player vs the supply. In two years time who knows what sort of player we will be needing, perhaps it's more back flankers instead of outside mids! Anyway think hawthorn do this well, ie Anderson, required player, disapppinted to see him go etc but understand he's looking for more opportunities and has our blessing to look elsewhere. Great way to market a reserves player.

$600000 is a lot of money for some bloke who kicks 6 goals 43 behinds (more or less) from set shots. How many more games might the blues have won if he had have kicked a little bit straighter?

Glad they've re-signed him.

That's the drum I'm always banging. Will say it yet again - players want all the benefits of the US system such as free agency, a CBA etc but always pull the small-time sporting code card whenever the idea of publicly releasing wages is raised.

In fact when you think about it financial members should be able to see the wage breakdown of key staff at the not for profit organisation they're contributing to. Would make it harder for the AFL to hide the blurry edges of a Dustin or Kelly deal though.
