Apart from the Western Derby (which is only enjoyed by West Australians), Fremantle holds no 'marquee' match throughout the year. Same opponent, same time and date, every year. I was thinking we could hold it on WA Day (the first Monday of every June) at a 6.10pm timeslot so the Victorians still get to watch it as it isn't a public holiday over there.

Maybe even have it that the West Australian team who finishes higher from the previous year gets the right to host the match, to avoid poor showings and a poor spectacle in the event we are cellar dwellers (ala Melbourne on Queen's Bday during the Neeld days) in order to keep interest in the match.

With the success of the ANZAC/Easter days hosting weekday footy, I think it's an opportunity wasted for our side to gain national exposure. Even when we do have a good year we hardly get Friday night footy scheduled.

Think West Coast had their plans to have that day to themselves, despite some opposition from the 4 WAFL clubs that played their Derbies on that day.

They tried it out on a Monday night in 2013 but they got flogged by Richmond and quickly abandoned the idea.
