Did they threaten to stop the show, kill everybody and burn down the building if anyone in the crowd dared to even look like they were dancing?

Watched ATDI at the HIFI some years ago and they would threaten people to stop jumping half way through songs or they would stop the show!!:eek:

I'm pretty sure they did that after that girl died at the BDO
 
I saw them at Festival Hall on Saturday and it was frakking amazing. Totally mindblowing. Eight blokes on stage and all they must be telepathic because no matter how wild the music became, they always seemed to understand what they were all doing.
For a band that lives by its 10 minute guitar instrumentals, they're incredibly tight.
When they played Viscera Eyes, I just went nuts.
The Mars Volta live is an experience you never forget and I hope they come back to Australia soon.
 
Wow.

They were so disappointing when I saw them in 2004 at the BDO.

But they were mindblowing with their own show. Absolutely stellar performers, just a wonderful live act.
 
Deloused is their best work. It's good when they cut out the **** (not they, it's really just Omar) and write songs.

I saw the festival hall show and it was good, but, like the band, would have been great if they were more tasteful. The new drummer was amazing though.

Im pretty sure im completly shattered about Mars Volta's lack of performance tonight in Perth...

Today the anticipation was getting to me...

Something about Cedric having a sore throat...

Yes.... I am very pissed:mad: . Luckly one of my mates gave me heads up before heading out to Metros. Such a big let down :(

Thinking about it now, I'm a bit disappointed I missed them in Adelaide this time around. When tickets went on sale I thought "I'll wait a bit", and then forgot about it, but when it came to the week of the gig, I remembered but then thought "ah, can't be bothered".

I've been a fan for a long time, and have got all their studio albums, plus the live album and live EP, so I'm not sure why I wasn't that enthusiastic about it. It might have subconsciously had something to do with my less-than-pleasing experience last time they toured Australia:

When they came here in 2007, I saw their gig at Thebarton Theatre here in Adelaide. The gig was originally scheduled for December 2006, but got postponed until March 2007. Thankfully they honored tickets bought for the original gig, but it was still a bit annoying that the postponement occured. On the night of the gig, the doors to the venue opened over half an hour after they were scheduled to, and the band hit the stage nearly two hours after that (there was no support acts prior), so by the time the two hour show they put on ended, I was just ready to leave. Don't get me wrong, it was an entertaining gig (even though it was filled heavily with material from what is in heinsight my least-favourite album of theirs, Amputechture, as that was their latest release at the time), but after nearly five hours of standing (in the line out the front, waiting for the gig to start, and during the gig itself), I'd had enough.
 
Saw them at Thebarton Theatre on Friday night. It was okay, but not the best show I've seen from them.

There was no support act, which I've always thought is a bit arrogant. If anything, a support act at least helps set an atmosphere. Anyway, they hit the stage about 30 minutes after I turned up. They played for about an hour and a half, with the first hour and a bit being completely new material. The new songs were good, but the set was a bit unbalanced - I'm all for new material, but I would have liked to hear a few more songs I was familiar with. The highlight for me was "The Widow". The new drummer is a machine (not literally), he was really impressive.

Overall, I'd rate the show a 6.5/10. I've seen them two times previous to this show, both at the Big Day Out, and TBH I thought the BDO shows were much better.

They had a support in Melbourne, but other that that, i can't remember them having a support in Australia for as long as i've been following them.

I loved it last night. From the new songs Trinkets was amazing and clearly the standout, dylexicon and aegis were awesome, Malkin Jewell was great, but i thought the Broken English jam dragged out a little and while i wasn't a fan of Whip hands before the big, i enjoyed it. Molkawalk was good as well (if you don't know the new songs, look them up on youtube, particularly Trinkets in Helsinki)

Only the second time i've seen them and while it probably wasn't as good as the last time, that's was mainly because of the length different. I never saw them during their Frances golden years.

I think the difference between this new stuff and the old stuff, it that it is all basically centred around Cedrick, his vocal lines make the songs rather than just being another piece like they used to be.

Deantoni is an amazing drummer. He was good last night, but when you watch him play with Omar's group, it's amazing.

I guess that's the problem for me. The first time I saw them was just under a year after Frances The Mute came out, so the majority of the songs they played were from that, or De-loused. It was a phenomenal performance, it still sticks out as the best festival set I've ever seen, and probably one of the best sets full stop. Maybe I'm the problem? After the gig on Friday, I couldn't help think of that Regurgitator song - "I Like Your Old Stuff Better Than Your New Stuff".

And wow. You actually remember Mars Volta track titles! They have some of the silliest song titles of any band I know of, death metal bands included. I've pretty much given up on remembering the names of most of their songs. I just put on an album and listen to it as the full package.
