Well after watching his Highlights a Few Time and Him saying he wants to play in the Midfield/Wing.

He starts to really remind me of Daisy with his Run and Carry he gives to the Side.

He is taller and more raw but he could become the next Daisy with the Excitement he can Create.

Just lack the Hanger Side of the Game as he seems to Tap the Ball instead of Mark and then Chase the Ball

Had me worried, thought you meant he was heading to Carltonwood...

Would prefer him as a big forward. Could easily play as a third tall, can provide lots of pressure with his pace which Buckley wants.

While you can never have enough quality tall forwards, I'd actually like to see him developed to play on the wing. Same with Goldsack, Karnezis and Oxley. Probably Scharenberg as well. A player who is 190cm+ and can contribute through the midfield of a wing makes for a very challenging matchup for oposition clubs and shares the midfield load and improves overall flexibility.

That seems to be Gubby's recruiting strategy.

Think he is a really interesting recruit. Some punters had him being drafted in the top 30, so it was clearly a good pick up by Hine and co to snap him up for nothing. Has great pace and something to work with so happy to have him on the list for a couple of years development to see what we can make of him.

Hope he becomes a superstar, but if not then we haven't spent much on him. Good luck Marshy!!

One was a second draft choice, the other was 77 in a weak draft.

I am struggling to see any similarities at this point except for speed.

They have the same massive Potential.:thumbsu:

Umm as you can see most votes are NO, Mods delete this thread as Marsh is the next Marsh and not our past.

Perhaps watch the Video, just because one was a pick 2 the other was pick 77 you do have the freedom to make a call....don't you?

He's bigger, stronger, faster and less skillful.. so im not sure if the Thomas comparison is apt.

In terms of as an explosive impact player, perhaps. But their game styles will be entirely different

Why would there Style be Different.

I know Marsh is more a Forward Player but I could see Marsh play up on the Wing

surely this doesn't needs it's on thread when Marsh's main thread: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/pick-77-welcome-to-collingwood-jonathon-marsh.1041907/page-8 has 8 pages.

We'll see how he develops - but I think he would be much better used as a 3rd tall forward than on the wing.
If you're going with 3 big forwards - you need one who is able to provide pace and groundwork, and, hopefully, defensive pressure. If can reach the potential that he show's in those clips - I think he would be ideal in that role.

If I were coaching Marsh to play on a wing, i'd be maximising the height and weight advantage that he'd have over his opponents. Chances are he'd be on a smaller opponent every time which is something that Daisy cant lay claim to and thus should be able to get a positional advantage in most contests, if not burn them on the run. Also, i think Thomas has the skill set to create play and drive the ball purposefully into the forward 50.. he's a much better user of the ball than Marsh, who i can see as a hard working link man on the wing, floating forward and getting in scoring opportunities

Marsh is not the next Daisy.

More realistic is something closer to the next Gary Rohan. Just with some luck without the knee.

On Marsh v Daisy.
Marsh has far worse skills with his footskills poor. He's not nearly as strong overhead. Not nearly as good in the air. Not the same level ball winner. And a poor tackler.
Where Marsh has the edge on Daisy is his pace is on another level with the way he takes on games offensively with ball in hand and his work at ground level is on another level with those freakish pickups.

Marsh has the opportunity to replace some of the line breaking ability Daisy had earlier in his career but that's where the comparison ends.

What about Brennan with work ethic?
