Is this guy the best mainstream football writer?

Once again he has produced a piece that looks at football from a humble level which serves to only highlight what really makes the game tick under the surface. How football exists at the grass roots level and the people who make it so.

This time, he focuses on the contribtion that Assumption College in general and Ray Carroll in particular have had on football.

Yes.

I have never read a piece by Martin Flanagan that I didn't find fascinating. It's because he loves the game as only a true fan can and is genuinely interested in the people he writes about, so he brings the people and the sport to life. Great writing.

Without a doubt! His ability to write eloquently, genuinely, and with genuine depth and warmth about the game and those who are involved with it is unsurpassed. He invariably looks for positives as well and I always eagerly await his forthcoming articles, as I'm yet to read a poor one.
