I understand that part, I just don't understand how at this point in time they could vote for Martin!!!

You can't have a poll like this and give one player the benefit of having a 'future'

It has to be here and now, and Swan is a superior player

Simple. Bias. And people don't know footy.

You use the umpires opinion to decide how good a player is?

MVP>>>>>>>>>>Brownlow
i believe my comment didnt send through properly.

i would like to thank you for being catch of the day...
but truly i cant, that was far too easy...

the brownlow is the most special individual award our game offers, we all know collingwood are bitter about it.

you collingwood fans must eat alot of sour grapes, because the stench of it stings my nostrils everytime im with a collingwood fan...;)

your 100% correct, nobody in their right mind thinks dane swan isnt the better player right now.

as for next year and beyond, who knows, dont stress about this poll, its only serving as humour to others.

howd he go in the brownlow?

thanks for making this far too easy.
24 votes. Martin - 6. Far, far too easy.

Martin projects as a very, very good player but Swan is, unquestionably, in the top handful (with Judd, Franklin Ablett) in the game and was probably the best player in the comp last year.

Bit of a joke how close this is and yet again shows how, on bigfooty, young > good.

For the record:

Shows the claim that Swan is purely a linkman while Dusty's a clearance monster (this year) is pretty tenuous; and (if you select stats > turnovers & critical errors) makes the "Swan can't kick" one pretty flimsy too. Swan's not a pretty kick but he's an effective one.

Yes, the Brownlow is the more prestigious individual award in the AFL.

But the Coaches and MVP award is a much more acurate judge of a footballer.

My dear departed mum was a Bloods (South Melbourne) supporter, are you a turncoat Swans supporter? Would be funny jumping from the Swans to the Tiges :D

haha, no my dear nan is a swans girl too...

but i used to play at the "aquinas old collegians football club", and we won the flag in a destructive dominant way in 08, we were the bloods, so hence the name, but ive been trying to contact mods to change it...

well picked up tho.

now might be a clever time to change from SYD to RFC tho haha.:thumbsu:

clever, but all and sundry know that i was having a dig there... now that you mention it 6 votes is pretty good for a 1st year player in a team that won only 6 games.

Please.

yeah true.... but the brownlow is the one you want, and he didnt get it;)...

im only stirring, swan right now is the better player. happy? lol

Coaches award and the MVP can both be easily influenced by stats, and in the cases of the coaches the ability of a player to play a role to perfection.

All forms of award have their shortcomings, the umpires judgement is based on instinct... and TBH I value it much more highly than the other awards

I actually value the umpires contribution much more highly then the media perception, the umpires vote after the game.. based on INSTINCT rather than the media who vote with access to statistics, etc.

That said I have no ****ing idea why Swan isn't absolutely destroying this poll.

The umpires get a list of stats to help them make their decision at the end of the match. I dont think it is an extensive list (kicks, handballs, goals not much more then that).

I remember Buckleys brownlow with the lost grandfinal in 2003 (we went in favourates and got smashed). For me personally I didn't care one bit about Swan not getting a brownlow, I was much happier to just get the premiership. So much more happiness then in 2003. Go back to the bay for bad trolling this is the wrong place.

Despite what Brad Scott (iirc) thinks, no they don't.

Umpires don't receive stats, so their votes are purely based on what they see on the field. They can't get blinded by numbers, they don't have any chance to watch a replay or seek outside opinions. That is what makes the Brownlow so unique.

It is an older article, but I don't recall anything in the last 1 and a half years indicating a change in that.

The first one he did nothing in. As you see in the replay he stood there and got passed the ball. 1 of those are creditable to the point you are trying to prove.
Finishing around the body in a prelim final with one of the league's top taggers (the opposition captain) applying pressure = Nothing.

BigFooty = Great.
