Marty back at the Pies

As much I trust in Hine and would love Marty back at the club. Pick 25 seems a bit steep for someone who hasnt played afl for 2/3 years. We should only trade these sort of picks if it is for someone who will definitely break into our best 22 (like krakouer last year). You have to remember Marty has missed the most important period in our playing list's development (2 gfs, 3 prelims) how do we know he can deliver on the big stage under pressure? I can only assume Hine really rates this kid elliot and thinks he is a top 20 pick in this draft. We will see...
Totally agree but my guess is that Marty is the steak knives in this deal!

Don't mind getting Clarke although he doesn't exactly fit a list requirement, nor does this Elliot kid.

What I'm thinking is that this may opt for Goldsack to seek a trade. No doubt that Goldsack now has one more person to compete with, and Clarke is a big opponent.

Does any draft watchers have any idea where this Elliott would have gone in the draft?

This also looks ominous for Brad Dick in a way.
Unfortunately I believe Brad Dick has had the [too obvious/]

No idea really but I tend to think that Brad Dick's days are numbered if not over unless he can bulk up and become a bit more durable. I personally don't like his chances but I'll be more than happy if he proves me wrong.

I like the deal.

We basically get 3 for 1.

We get Marty, Jamie and a pick in the 60's for pick 25, not bad.:thumbsu:

Picking up Marty, if anything just improves our list, it increases the amount of players we have who can play at a senior level.

WELCOME BACK MARTY.:thumbsu:

Why does everybody presume he will play in the backhalf???

M.Clarke was basically the equivalent of a CHF over in Ireland, and Gaelic footy is played at a faster pace than AFL so he will have no trouble adopting to 'the increased pace'.

He would be a brilliant foil across HF IMO.

Welcome back Marty, another top 22 player, in his prime ie 24 years old, that we have added to arguably the best list in the game.

Question for the informed people of this board

Do you think Marty will be able to regain match fitness & touch for the season proper next year?
If Marty does a full preseason including HA in Arizona then I'd suggest all that will be lacking is a bit of touch for the oval ball. You can bet that the brainst trust at the Westpac Centre will be making sure Marty has a Sherrin tied via bungee to his wrist at all times in the next 6 months. :)

I liked Clarke as a player but I am a bit annoyed that we had to give up pick 25 for effectively our own player. Marty is not worth that pick but I know nothing about Elliot.

I think we need to start getting early picks via trades in coming year not the other way around. Time to stock up on gun kids and try and maintain a premiership capable list for a decade.

A bit hard to judge him off that footage. Looks like he's not afraid to attack the footy and he can crumb a goal well. Short too. Wonder if he'd be anything like Blair?

is this the same Jamie Elliot? found this vid which shows his skills a bit better.

Doubt we'll get him, The Australian saying Carlton offering their 1st round draft pick and Brock McLean on Alan Richardson advice.

IN a bid to further boost its back line, Carlton is making a play for Irishman Marty Clarke, who is poised to return to the AFL from a two-year exile.

They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery... but this is getting ridiculous! Come up with ur own ideas!

Clarke has to agree to the trade. His first choice has always been Collingwood.

Swann and Richardson are at Carlton so he would have some familiar faces around, not sure he would give up an AFL career if it came down to Carlton or go back home.

Yeah, but he was always going to try and get a trade done to come to Collingwood, then if that didn't work out he would have considered other offers, and Carlton with 2 senior irish boys would have been the next best spot for him from a comfort point.

Thankfully though, he will be wearing black and white next year, and hopefully for 5-6 years after that, he's only 24, so if he decides to hang around he could play plenty of games for us.
