Mattner traded to Swans

Martin Mattner has been traded to the Sydney Swans for pick 28 in the 2008 national draft.

Mattner, recruited from Sturt in the SANFL, was elevated from the Crows rookie list in 2002 and played 98 AFL games.

“We would like to wish Marty all the best in his new venture with Sydney and thank him for his strong contribution to the Adelaide Football Club over the past six years," Crows General Manager – Football Operations John Reid said. “To have a player graduate from our rookie list and nearly reach 100 AFL games is a win for both the club and Marty and we hope this deal brings more of the same.”

Mighty Moose is his nickname apparently and I have no idea why.

Generally you hear the crowd just yell out "FFS Marty kick the damn thing" :D

All the best for Marty and if Roos plays him the backlines......

Cheers

Good, now hope that this is the end of trading for us. (I still prefer both buchanan and Schneider to stay)
Still one more trade to complete, if we can find a mature FB or KP defender for either Monty or Scheinder then that would round things out nicely when added to hopefully Rance at 11 and Craig Bird with our third pick.

I would have no objection with Monty going to Melbourne for Miller in a straight swap.

Gives us the mature FB we are looking for, means we retain Scheinder for his goal scoring ability and either Schmidt or Moore get a crack at Monty's position in the team next year.

This definitely opens things up for our backline. Let's hope injury wise the god's will be a little kinder in '08. It's no secret that all successful teams have a consistent line up.. Think Swans '05.

Let's not gloat about '07.

I'm sure we'll see a more running game from the Swannies next year.

Especially with Tadgh, Mal and now Mattner in the back.

I think Hall will have a big year.

Bring on '08...

I think we're half a chance of landing Miller for pick 44. I'd be happy with that. Wouldn't be pleased with Monty for Miller though.

I doubt Melbourne would take that. The Jude Bolton rumours have now emerged and perhaps he could be involved in an ontrade for a early 2nd round pick for Miller.

As much as I love Jude, I could live with that. His devil-may-care approach to footy has shortened his career I suspect. Without substantial improvement I'd struggle to see him lasting beyond 2009.

Congratulations Sydney.

To get a dashing half back player to work with Kennelly is great news for you guys and for only pick 28 you've absolutely won on that deal!

Sydney fans, I hope you enjoy frustration, as thats what Marty will bring your club...whenever he gets the ball he tries to dodge and weave etc, should hear the crowd :(

We are used to it. We have Leo Barry and he does exactly the same thing.
